1、Vision is much more than clear sight. Over the past few decades, numerous research studies have shown that there is a strong relationship between vision and learning problems in school. This strong relationship between vision and learning is also true for people with amblyopia and strabismus. According to a study by Stifter, et al. published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, there are significant differences in reading between the children with unilateral microstrabismic amblyopia and children with normal vision.
2、Learning is a complex process in which the role is vision is fundamental.
3、“Vision therapy does not directly address learning difficulties or dyslexia. It is a treatment aimed at improving visual efficiency, thus allowing the individual to respond better to educational instruction… and should be part of an interdisciplinary approach to the treatment of learning disabilities.” Optometrists provide their patients with the opportunity to use their visual system to its maximum potential so that learning becomes easier and more successful.
4、In 1999, the American Optometric Association, in conjunction with the American
Academy of Optometry, published the following statement:
5、If a child has strabismus, for example, the two eyes are aimed at different letters or words on the page, which can create great confusion. You can find more than 200 references concerning the relationship between vision and learning in the Optometric Clinical Practice Guidelines published by the American Optometric Association. There are many children with learning problems for which vision problems are the principal or secondary contributing factor to the child’s difficulty with learning. As optometrists, we do not treat learning problems directly. We treat the underlying vision problems that are contributing to the learning difficulties.

【COVD】
COVD（College of Optometrists in Vision Development）—视光业视觉发展学会，是一个由眼睛护理专业人士组成的国际性非盈利组织，包括视光师、视光学学生、视觉治疗师等。COVD成立于1971年，为提供视力保健、视觉治疗、视觉康复等视光专业服务的视光师和视觉治疗师颁发认证证书。这些专业视觉保健服务在提高成人和儿童视觉能力、纠正视觉问题等方面有很大的发展空间。
COVD国际考试和国际认证包括对眼睛护理专业知识的严格评估，以及为病人提供视觉保健实践能力的考察。视光师完成视觉发展和治疗的认证后就可以成为COVD的研究员了。COVD的研究员要继续研究，参加专业的继续教育，提高视力保健方面的专业知识和技能。
会员要求
能够在视觉保健和视觉治疗方面提供良好护理的视光师、全职的验光配镜师、验光配镜专业的学生、由视光验光专业院校院长或COVD成员聘请的视觉治疗师、没有临床经验但是对视功能发展有兴趣的个人、对视力发展和治疗感兴趣但是却没时间进行继续教育的人。
研究员要求
三年临床经验，至少两年的临床诊断和视觉治疗管理经验，具备良好的视觉信息处理能力和视觉治疗能力。
工作职责
会员探讨研究视觉保健、视觉治疗等方面的知识，进行视觉治疗、视觉训练等方面的实践；颁发科研项目奖学金以及对成员进行专业认证；举行年会；发表期刊；进行视力发展、视觉治疗、视觉保健等方面的教育；视觉训练、集合不足（CITT)、脑损伤等方面的研究。
