Prior to Children’s Day, they show off by “keeping up with the Joneses”
[1] 一年一度的六一国际儿童节临近了。家长们可以带着孩子外出游玩，也能够给孩子送上一件向往已久的礼物。然而，现在的儿童节似乎也在渐渐变味，成为一些孩子“拼爹”“拼富”的节日。
[1] This year’s International Children's Day is just around the corner. Parents will take their children out for a trip or an outing or give them the long-awaited gifts. Nowadays, however, Children’s Day turns out to be a whole different ball game, on which some children are crazy about getting the better of their mates by showing off “sky-high price” gifts or whatever generously given by their daddy or friends of their daddy.
[2] 有个孩子说：“我爸是副处长，他的手下送我一台学习机呢。”
[2] One kid said proudly, “Daddy is a deputy section chief and one of his understrapper gave me a learning machine.”
[3] 有个孩子更逗，直接反驳他说：“你爸太没面子了，手下才送你个学习机，别人来我家求我爸办事，我在旁边说家里的iPad坏了，那个叔叔直接就在咱家上网，给我订了一个iPad，第二天妈妈就在家收到货了。”
[3] The other boy jeered at him, directly refuting, “Your daddy should feel ashamed of himself for that fucking learning machine. A guy came to my home to ask Daddy for a favor and I just said that my iPad went wrong in a roundabout way. To my great surprise, that uncle just ordered online a new iPad just at my home. You guess what, Mom got the gadget delivered at my doorstep the next day.”
[4] 另外一个同学也加入了他们拼富的话题，告诉着两个同学：“我爸六一儿童节什么礼物也没送我，就拿出三万块钱，带着我给孤儿院的小孩送礼物。”
[4] Just then another boy joined their conversation by telling them, “This Children’s Day Daddy gives me nothing but thirty thousand yuan and takes me to an orphanage to distribute gifts to the orphans there.”
[5] 不管是家长还是学校，都应该对这种比拼行为进行及时制止和正确引导，否则影响的是孩子的未来。儿童节是属于孩子的美好回忆，不应该掺杂进大人世界的东西。还孩子们一个干净快乐的童年吧！
[5]Either families or schools are supposed to be in time to stop the kids from “keeping up with the Joneses” and give them the correct instructions, or otherwise they will be led astray. Children’s Day represents the unforgettable memories for children and should not be compounded with any elements of the adult world. But on the contrary, we are to nurture and bring up our innocent and pure children.
