Living Word Shanghai's high school students usually go overseas to study in America, Canada, Australia, or other places. Reading forms an integral part of their language development as they will eventually will be living overseas.
Living Word Shanghai's Lexile Reading System is a reputable reading program. Improving English skills is a difficult process and requires suitable reading material at every level. Lexile is a system vetted by academics and praised for its ability to improve the reading skills and habits of American students as well as their writing skills by providing suitable materials at every stage. Lexile is divided into levels from total beginner (0L) to most advanced (1700L).
1. Basic
The goal of this level is to introduce basic vocabulary.
2. Learn to Read
This level, students will begin to on themselves.
3. Read to Learn
Students at this level will be able to read for pleasure as well as for knowledge.
4. Read and Think
This final level, students at this level will have advanced reading comprehension skills and be able to differentiate quality of text.
Lexile's different levels of skills can be directly transferred into other standards such as IELTS.
Reading is very relevant to language acquisition and doing so regularly benefits students and adults alike.
Living Word Shanghai encourages and rewards its students for reading regularly. Each day has a minimum of 20 minutes of English reading and students are required to report about what they have read. In just 3 months you'll notice a marked increase in English skills. What's even better is that after a year, you'll notice noticeable increases in relevant tests like the IELTS and TOEFL!
