铃是青铜乐器的原始形态,是中国最早出现的 青铜乐器 。多与马具、兵器伴随出土,可见早期当悬于车马或膝(古时无铃为旗,有铃为膝)。《 诗 ·周颂》中有:“龙膝扬扬,和铃 央央 。”形容军旅的气势,也说明铃的广泛应用。铙、钲、铎直到钟等古代青铜乐器,大体都可以视为是铃的发展。而铃本身的用途也逐渐多样起来,后来最常见的则为大型建筑物上的风铃。如《 宋史 ·礼志》载:“门不设戟,殿角皆垂铃。

此铃采用失蜡法铸造。失蜡法也称“熔模法”,是铸造精致青铜金属器物的重要方法。主要做法是采用蜂蜡做成铸件的模型,再用耐火材料敷成外范,加热烘烤后,让蜡模熔化流出,形成空腔铸范,浇入液态金属,冷却后得到成型铸件。以失蜡法铸造的器物可以做到玲珑剔透、细部刻画逼真、铸体纹饰清晰的效果,古代多用于铸造具有复杂形状的铸件。中国已知最早的失蜡铸件是河南淅川出土的春秋晚期铜盏部件和铜镜以及湖北随县曾侯乙墓出土的青铜尊、盘等。
