Qingming Festival is not only an important holiday, but also one of the 24 solar terms. It usually falls on the fourth or the fifth day of April. This year, it is on 5 April.
清明节不仅是一个重要的节日，也是24节气之一。它通常是在4月的第四天或第五天。今年，它是在4月5日。
Qingming Festival is also called the Tomb-sweeping Day, because on this day the Chinese people will offer sacrifices to their ancestors and sweep the tombs of the deceased. Since the weather is usually clear and bright, it is also named Pure (or Clear) Brightness Festival.
清明节也被称为扫墓日，因为在这一天，中国人将祭祀他们的祖先并清扫死者的坟墓。由于天气通常是晴朗的，所以它也被命名为纯洁（或清澈）的光明节。
Qingming is an important traditional festival. It is the combination of the Cold Food Festival (a festival when people used to do the tomb sweeping) and Shangsi or the Double Thirds Festival (a festival when people used to plug in the willow branches under the roof). It is also a time for the Chinese people to go outside to enjoy the greenery of Spring season.

The most important custom for Qingming Festival is to offer sacrifice to the ancestors and the dead family members. People go to the cemeteries to sweep tombs and offer sacrifices. Food and flowers are usually offered to the dead. Also, they burn some paper money hoping the dead can live with enough food and clothes in the other world. Nowadays, people also choose to do the same thing online so that the offerings won’t pollute the environment.
清明节最重要的习俗是祭祀祖先和死去的家人。人们到墓地扫墓和祭祀。通常向死者献上食物和鲜花。此外，他们还烧一些纸钱，希望死者在另一个世界能有足够的食物和衣服。现在，人们也选择在网上做同样的事情，这样供品就不会污染环境。
On this today, people also lay paper flowers or wreath at the martyr memorials. It is a day to pay tribute to the ones who maintain us leading a peaceful life at the cost of their lives.

Another important custom is to travel outside during the Qingming Festival. As the weather is often pleasant during these days, it is a very good time for the people to take a walk in the countryside.

Other activities for the festival include flying kites, planting willow trees and playing on the swing.
