【透视】 要做好此题必须理解以下几个词语的意思：“live up to．．．”配得上……，“be home to．．．”……的家园，“one fifth of mankind”五分之一的人类。句意为：如果世界贸易组织不包括占世界人口五分之一的国家，它就不能够名副其实。as long as表示“仅有的条件”，while表示“同时或转折”，if表示“条件”，even though表示“让步”，因此答案为C。

1、as/so long as的区别
as long as和so long as均可表示“只要”，用于引导条件状语从句，两者没什么区别。
但是，当 as long as 用于本义表示“与……一样长”时，与 so long as 在用法上是有区别的，即 as long as 可用于肯定句或否定句，而 so long as 只用于否定句，不用于肯定句。如：
I'm sure we are safe as/so long as(we are) in his care. 我深信只要在他的保护下,我们就会平安无事.
It took three times as long as I had expected. 这件事比我预料的多花了两倍的时间。
It didn’t take as [so] long as I expected. 花的时间比我预料的短。
2、as (so) far as; as (so) long as（高考英语常用词汇辨析）
as(so)far as的意思是“就……而言(所知)”，as (so) far as sth.is concerned是其中一种具体用法，意为“就某事而言”;
as (so) long as意为“只要”，引导条件状语从句。
如：
As far as I know, more than 10 million laid-off workers have found their new jobs.
就我所知，一千多万下岗工人已经找到了新的工作。
There is nothing that we can’t do so / as long as wekeep on trying to do it.
只要我们不断地努力去做，就没有什么事干不成。
As far as the tourism of China is concerned, there is a long way to go.
就中国的旅游业而言，需要做的工作还很多。
