Hello everyone, and welcome back to English with Lucy.

大家好欢迎回到《露西聊英语》。

Today, I have an advanced listening lesson for you.

今天,我为大家准备了高级听力课。

But don't worry, you don't have to be at an advanced listening level to participate and understand.

不必担心,听懂和理解这节课,你不需要具备高级听力水平。

This lesson is more about showing you how to reach an advanced level.

这节课主要是告诉你如何达到高级水平。

I'm going to teach you how to start understanding fast English conversations and fast native English speakers.

我会教你如何听懂快速的英语对话甚至是快速的英语母语者的对话。

In this lesson, I've got three listening activities for you to do, so please have a pen and paper ready.

这节课我为大家准备了3项听力练习,拿出笔和本子做好准备吧。

Let's start with exercise number one.

我们先从第1项练习开始。

This exercise is all about showing you the importance of vocabulary.

这个练习是要告诉你词汇的重要性。

Many listening exams will have a gap-fill exercise, where you're given a passage of text and you have to listen to an audio and fill in the gaps.

许多听力考试都会有填空题,考试中会给你一段文章,然后你需要根据听力音频填空。

The same goes for natural fast English conversation.

一般的快速英语对话也是如此。

You may understand the majority of the words, but you may miss some keywords that are essential to understanding the conversation.

你或许能理解大部分单词,但你可能会漏掉一些表达对话主要意思的关键词。

How can you understand a passage of text or a fast English conversation if you don't know the vocabulary?

如果你词汇量不够,那你如何理解一段文章,或者是快速的英语对话?

Yes, sometimes you can understand the context and many exams will rely on this for the easier questions.

诚然,你会理解上下文,借此许多考试的简单问题便可以解答。

But to get full marks, you need to have a broad and expansive vocabulary.

但是如果想要得满分,你就要有足够的词汇量。

On your screen, there will appear a gap-fill exercise.

屏幕上过会儿会出现填空练习。

I'm going to read this text, and I would like you to see how many of the words you can fill in.

我会读这篇文章,然后看看你们能填上多少单词。

I will read this once, but please replay it if you feel like you need to listen again.

我会读一遍,如果你觉得你需要再听一遍,请回复一下。

Before you attempt any of the exercises in this lesson, please turn off the subtitles, because they could ruin your chances of giving a genuine attempt.

在做本节课的练习之前请关掉字幕,不要让你真诚的尝试被字幕化为乌有。

Are you ready?

准备好了吗?

Let's begin.

开始吧。

Over the past two decades, the average annual death rate of climbers on Mount Everest has remained at about six.

过去的20年中,珠穆朗玛峰攀登者的年平均死亡人数约在6人左右。

But this spring, at least 10 people have already been reported dead or missing on the world's highest peak.

但今年春天,据报道已有至少10人在这世界之巅死亡或失踪。

This is also the season that saw a record 381 climbing permits issued by the Nepalese government.

整个春季,尼泊尔政府签发了381张登山许可证。

In reality, this means about 600 people were preparing to embark on the climb, with permit holders accompanied by support staff up the mountain.

事实上,这意味着大约有600多人要准备登山,因为持有登山证的人,须经支持团队陪同上山。

Make sure you play that again if you need help.

如果需要,可以再播放一次。

Here are the answers.

这是答案。

Now, none of this is truly specialised vocabulary.

这些都不算是专业词汇。

So it's likely that if you have a broad vocabulary, you'd be able to do this exercise.

你如果你的词汇量比较大,这样的练习你是可以做的。

Listening and vocabulary go hand in hand.

听力能力和词汇量是并驾齐驱的。

And if you're struggling with your listening, really consider improving your vocabulary or at least trying to improve your vocabulary.

如果你还在为自己的听力能力苦苦挣扎,那你真的要考虑一下提高你的词汇了,或至少尽量多记一些。

One of the best ways of doing this is picking up vocabulary on your own in your daily life, and combining that with a structured curriculum.

提高词汇的最好办法就是自己在日常生活中积累,并将这些词汇与你的系列课程结合起来。

You get the best of both worlds.

你会一举两得。

You learn words that you have to learn, because they're on the curriculum, and you also learn words that you need to learn, because you come across them all the time.

一些必须要记的单词你会记住,因为它们就在课程里面,而且你需要的单词你也会记住,因为你一直会碰到它们。

I truly believe that's the perfect combination, I highly recommend Lingoda, the sponsor of this video, for exactly that reason.

我坚信这是完美的结合,我强烈推荐Lingoda(也是这个视频的赞助者),就是这个原因。

Lingoda is an online language school that offers English, business English, German, French, and Spanish.

Lingoda是一所在线语言学校,教授英语、商务英语、德语、法语和西班牙语。

You can learn from anywhere in the world, in small group or private classes, 24/7, with native, qualified teachers from the UK and the US.

It costs from only eight euros per class.

一节课仅需8欧元。

That is incredible value for money, and where it links back to this lesson, you can choose from over 1,000 classes.

太超值了,而且在这个课程的链接页面,你还可以找到超过1000节课。

So you will always be able to progress on the subjects and skills that are relevant for you.

所以你可以在自己需要的课程和技能上不断提高。

If you want to try before you buy, there is also the option of a free trial.

如果你想在购买之前体验一下,这里也提供了免费试用的选择。

Lingoda have given me a special offer to pass onto you.

这里为你准备了Lingoda的特殊优惠。

I've tried Lingoda myself, and I think it's a fantastic way of improving your language skills, especially your listening skills and your vocabulary skills.

我亲自尝试过Lingoda,我发现这是一个提高语言技能的绝好方法,尤其是听力和词汇量。

If you schedule in frequent classes, they will skyrocket, I promise.

如果你可以经常上课,我保证你会突飞猛进。

So, to summarise this first exercise, it was more about showing you the importance of vocabulary.

那么,总结一下第一个练习,主要是强调一下词汇量的重要性。

There are lots of tips and tricks that I can give you to help you improve your exam prospects, but realistically, if you don't know the words, how are you going to understand the words?

我可以给你许多建议与技巧来帮助你提高成绩,但说实在的,如果你不认识单词,那你怎么去理解呢?

I've got lots more videos on expanding your vocabulary which you can use if you want to improve your listening.

我制作了很多关于扩充词汇量的视频,如果想要提高听力,你可以看一看。

I know it sounds like they don't go together, but they really, really do.

我知道,这听起来似乎有点不搭,但这之间确实是有联系的。

Now, let's move onto exercise number two.

接下来我们进入第2项练习。

This is an exercise that you can practise at home as much as you want.

这项练习只要你想,在家就可以做。

It's a speed alteration exercise.

变速训练。

This exercise is so, so effective if you practise it frequently.

如果勤加练习收效会非常巨大。

If you commit to doing this exercise every day for a month or for two months, I guarantee you, your listening will improve so much.

如果你每天拿出时间来做这项练习坚持一两个月,我保证,你的听力将大幅提高。

The best thing about this exercise is it's one that you can create for yourself at home with very little effort.

这项练习的最大优点是:只要在家稍微花点力气就可以做到。

If you have a YouTube account, which I presume you do, because you're watching this video, unless it's been illegally downloaded, which makes me very, very angry。

如果你有一个YouTube账户,我猜你肯定有的,因为你正在看这个视频,除非你非法下载了视频,这可让我非常生气哦。

Well, you have all the tools and resources to create your own speed alteration exercise.

所有的工具和资源都有了,你可以自己进行变速练习了。

For this one, you really do need a pen and paper.

这次你真的需要一支笔和纸了。

Let me show you how it works.

让我来教你怎么做。

I'm going to give you a short audio.

我先念一段短音频。

I'm going to play it at a slightly slower speed than normal.

我我以稍慢于正常的速度念一遍。

I want you to write down everything you hear.

希望你可以记下所能听到的内容。

It might be a full sentence, it might just be words.

记下整句话也可以,单词也可以。

I'm then going to play again at normal speed, and I'm going to play it one more time at fast speed.

然后我再以正常速度再念一遍,然后再用稍快的速度念一遍。

During each of the three times that I play the audio, I want you to be writing down what you hear or editing what you've written down.

听这三遍音频的时候,我希望你可以记下你听到的或者整理一下你所写的句子。

Again, remember to turn off subtitles or you will completely ruin the exercise for yourself.

再重复一次,记得关掉字幕,不然练习就功亏一篑了。

Are you ready?

准备好了吗?

Let's begin.

开始。

The British supermarket chain, Waitrose, is starting a trial aimed at reducing packaging by removing plastic from flowers and plants and offering more loose fruit and vegetables.

英国连锁超市,威特罗斯,正在进行一次尝试:通过去掉花卉和植物的塑料包装以及销售无包装的水果和蔬菜来减少包装的使用。

Customers will be able to use their own containers to buy and refill produce such as pasta, rice, and cereals.

顾客们可以使用自己的袋子装上他们买到的意面、大米和谷物。

Okay, now I'm going to play it at normal speed.

好的,接下来我要用这正常度读一遍。

Are you ready?

准备好了吗?

Let's begin.

顾客们可以使用自己的袋子装上他们买到的意面、大米和谷物。

And I'm going to play it once more, at fast speed.

现在我要快速读一遍。

Are you ready?

准备好了吗?

Let's begin.

开始。

The British supermarket chain, Waitrose, is starting a trial aimed at reducing packaging by removing plastic from flowers and plants and offering more loose fruit and vegetables.

顾客们可以使用自己的袋子装上他们买到的意面、大米和谷物。

Here is what I said and once again at normal speed.

这就是我刚才说的,然后我再用正常速度说一遍。

顾客们可以使用自己的袋子装上他们买到的意面、大米和谷物。

Now this is a really interesting exercise, because it really affects the brain in a funny way.

这是一项非常有趣的练习,它以一种十分有趣的方式影响着大脑。

When you turn something down to slow speed, it gives you more time to think about what you're hearing.

当你把音频降速,这会给你更多的时间去思考你所听到的内容。

When you turn it back to normal speed, it sounds really, really fast, but again it gives you another chance.

当你调回正常速度,你就会感觉非常快,但这又给你了一个机会,可以再听一次。

When you put it onto fast speed, it sounds almost impossible to understand.

当你调到快速的时候,似乎不可能听懂了。

But because you've already heard it twice and at slower speeds, you can still pick things up and then when you play it the final time to check your answer at normal speed, well, it seems much easier.

但是你已经慢速听了2次,你依然可以清楚一些内容,然后当你用正常速度听最后一次,来检查你的答案时,哦,你会发现简单多了。

Now, I would like you to find YouTube videos in accent that you desire, maybe it's a TED Talk, maybe it's your favourite YouTuber, maybe it's some of my videos.

现在你可以找一下自己喜欢的YouTube视频,可能是Ted 演讲、可能是你最喜欢的YouTube主播、或许是一些我的视频。

I want you to listen to them once in slow speed, once at normal speed, and once at fast speed.

我希望你慢速听一次,常速听一次,快速听一次。

Then go back to normal speed and see how much more you understand.

然后再以常速听一次,看看你能听懂多少。

If you want to do the writing down exercise, I encourage you to take very short videos or snippets, maybe one minute of news videos or commentary videos.

如果你想做听写练习,我建议选取短视频或片段,一分钟的新闻视频或评论视频。

If you do maybe two minutes a day, you play it slow, normal, fast, then normal again, if you do that every day for 30 days, I guarantee, you will start becoming much more used to listening to fast English conversations.

如果你每天听2分钟,慢速,常数,快速,然后再常速,如果你每天都听,坚持30天,我保证你会更加习惯于快速英语对话。

It's a really great technique, but it does need a little bit of dedication.

这可是一项真正的技能,只不过你需要一些投入。

Exercise number three is connected speech.

第3项练习是连读语音。

I'm going to say this sentence quite a few times.

这个句子我要说几遍。

I think I'm going to say it four times.

我感觉要说4遍。

I recommend that on the first time that you just write down what you hear, if it's letters.

我建议,第一次你可以写下听到的字母。

Maybe it's just a load of letters that you hear or random words.

可能只是许多的字母或是一些随机的单词。

Then over the next couple of times that you hear it,try and make it out into a full sentence.

在听之后的几次时,尽力写出整个句子。

What you're doing is training your brain to adapt to connected speech.

你需要做的是训练大脑适应连音。

Ready?

准备好了吗?

Let's begin.

开始。

I'd been intending to visit it for a long time.

很久以来,我就想参观一下它。

I was so amazed by the absolute beauty of it.

它那无与伦比的美丽令我折服。

I'd been intending to visit it for a long time.

很久以来,我就想参观一下它。

I was so amazed by the absolute beauty of it.

它那无与伦比的美丽令我折服。

I'd been intending to visit it for a long time.

很久以来,我就想参观一下它。

I was so amazed by the absolute beauty of it.

它那无与伦比的美丽令我折服。

I'd been intending to visit it for a long time.

很久以来,我就想参观一下它。

I was so amazed by the absolute beauty of it.

它那无与伦比的美丽令我折服。

So the full sentence was…

整句话是……

I had been intending to visit it for a long time.

很久以来,我就想参观一下它。

I was so amazed by the absolute beauty of it.

它那无与伦比的美丽令我折服。

But I said it in a very natural, connected speech.

但我说的很自然,用到了连音。

Fashion.

很时尚。

Instead of saying 'I had', I said 'I'd'. Instead of saying 'been intending', I said 'be-nintending'.

我没有说“I had”,而是说“I'd”。我没有说“been intending”,而是“be-nintending”。

Instead of saying 'to visit it', I said 't'visit-it'.

我没有说“to visit it”,而是说“t'visit-it”。

T, with the schwa, visit-it.

T,用了混元音,visit-it。

Instead of 'for a long time', I said, 'f'r a long time', 'f'r a long time'.

我没有说“for a long time”,而是说“f'r a long time,f'r a long time”。

Instead of 'I was so amazed', I said 'I w's so amazed, I w's so amazed. '

我没有说“I was so amazed”,而是说“I w's so amazed, I w's so amazed”。

Instead of 'by the absolute', 'by the absolute, by the absolute'.

我没有说“by the absolute”,而是说“by the absolute,by the absolute”。我没有说“beauty of it”,而是说“beauty of it”。

Right, let's talk about why.

好的,让我们来讨论一下原因?

While we don't speak like robots, we use connected speech.

我们说话不像机器人那样,所以会使用连音。

Now I do have a whole video on connected speech.

我有关于连音的完整视频。

I'm going to give a brief overview now, but the technique I've just shown you is a really good thing to practise, because it gets you thinking about connected speech.

先让你大体了解一下,我刚才展示的技巧是非常值得练习的,因为这会让你意识到连音。

If you have an English teacher, you could ask them to send you some sentences and have you work out what they're saying.

如果你有英语老师,你可以让他们给你说一些句子,然后你听他们说了些什么。

It's something you could request in a private class.

你可以在私人课中请老师这么做。

There are four parts of connected speech that I'm going to talk about.

这里要讲一下4种连音方式。

The first one is catenation.

第1种:辅音连音。

This is when a consonant sound at the end of one word, and note I say sound, it's not just a letter.

在辅音出现在词末,注意我说的是音,而不是字母。

It's all about the phonemes.

这全部是关于音素的。

A consonant sound at the end of one word is joined with the vowel sound at the beginning of the following word.

词末辅音与下一个单词的词首元音相连。

An apple, an apple.

一个苹果 ,一个苹果。

In the example sentence, been intending, be-nintending, that's catenation.

例句中“been intending, be-nintending”就是辅音连音。

There's also intrusion, his is when two words are sent together.

还有一种:加音连读,这种情况发生在两个单词一起发音时。

An extra sound might be placed between them to make it easier to say.

两个单词之间会多出一个音,不过发音更方便了。

I am, I am. You are, you are.

我是,我是。你是,你是。

I explained this more in my connected speech video, which I have linked down below.

我会在有关连音的视频中详细解释,链接就在下方。

But if our mouth is wide, like 'ee', then we normally do a 'yah'sound.

如果我们的嘴巴张大像“ee”,我们通常就会发“yah”的音。

And if our mouth is round, like 'ooh', then we normally do 'wuh' sound.

如果我们的嘴形是圆的像“ooh”,那我们就发“wuh”的音。

Ee, yah. Ooh, wuh.

Ee, yah. Ooh, wuh.

For example, the sentence, we all play out. We all play out.

例如这个句子,we all play out(我们都精疲力尽了)We all play out。

Play, again, it's this wide sound, 'yout'.

Play是嘴形宽的发音,就这么读“yout”。

We all play out.

我们都精疲力尽了。

Now take this sentence, go out to open. Go out to open.

再说一句 Go out to open,Go out to open。

It's the ooh, round shape, so we use a 'wuh' sound.

“ohh”这个音,嘴形是圆的,所以我们用“wuh”这个音。

We also have the 'er' sound.

我们还会用到“er”这个音。

For example, there is, there is.

例如“There is”,“there is”。

Better alone, better alone.

Better alone, better alone.

Now in British English, we don't tend to pronounce the Rs at the end of words, but those secret Rs are still there, so they come out when the following word begins with a vowel sound.

在现在的英式英语中,我们通常不会去发词末的“r”音。但是这个隐藏的字母并没有消失,所以下一个单词以元音开头的话,它就会出现。

Again more detail in my connected speech video.

重复一下,更多讲解请看我的相关视频。

In the example sentence, the absolute became the absolute with the yah sound.

在例句中,the absolute中加入了“yah”这个音。

We also have a lesion, which is the omission of one or more sounds.

下一个:省音,就是有一两个音不发出来。

It can be a vowel sound, a consonant sound, a whole syllable.

不发音的可以是元音,也可以是辅音或是整个音节。

A common form that is clear to see is contractions.

常见的形式就是缩写。

Do not becomes don't. Is not becomes isn't.

“Do not”变为了“don't”。“Is not”变为了“isn't”。

In the example sentence, I had became I'd.

例句中“I had”变成了“I'd”。

Lastly, we have assimilation.

最后一种:合音。

This is where two phonemes comes togeth and change into a new phoneme which is easier to say.

两个音素合二为一,变成一个新的音素,以方便发音。

For example, don't you becomes dontchoo.

例如“don't you”变成了“dontchoo”。

That's because 'tuh' and 'yah' comes together to make a 'ch' sound.

这是因为“tuh”与“yah”合在一起变成了“ch”。

Don't you like it, dontcha like it.

你不喜欢吗?

'Duh' and 'yah' come together to make a 'ja' sound.

“Duh”和“yah“合成了”ja”这个音。

For example, did you like it?

例如,你喜欢吗?

Did you like it?

你喜欢吗?

Right. That's it for today's lesson. I hope you enjoyed it.

好了,这就是今天的课程,我希望你喜欢。

I hope you learned something, and I really hope you enjoyed doing the exercises, especially exercise number two.

我希望你能学到一些东西,真心希望你可以做这些练习,尤其是第2项练习。

Please, if you practise that often, you will notice a marked difference.

如果你经常做这样的练习,会得到显著的改变。
