                                                      表示“更不用说” 的短语

这几个短语用于表示“更不用说”，对前面所述作进一步的肯定或否定，常可换用。let alone 和not to mention 后可接表示肯定或否定意义的短语，但需注意still/much more 用于肯定句，still/much less 用于否定句。但需注意still/much more 用于肯定句，still/much less 用于否定句。

 

1) In those days, we couldn’t send our children to middle school, let alone college.

  （那时候我们不能将自己的孩子送去中学,更不用说上大学了。）

2) After his severe injury in the accident, doctors gave him little chance of surviving, let alone playing golf professionally.

           （他在事故中严重受伤后,医生说他活下来的希望都不大,更不用说打专业高尔夫球的专业。）

 

3) I feel sorry for his failure, still/much more for his ill health.

           （对他的失败我很同情,更不用说同情他身体不好。）

4) Indeed, almost every scientist now finds it impossible to read all the books relevant to his own subject, much less/still less to read extensively outside of it.

  （事实上,几乎每一个科学家现都觉得要读所有有关他专业的书是不可能,更不用说读去泛读专业以外的书了。）

 

5) We are too busy to take a long holiday this year, not to mention the fact that we can’t afford it.

           （我们太忙今年不能去度长假, 再说度长假我们也承担不了。）

     6）Old folk and children alike are all against the proposal, not to mention the youth.

     (老人小孩都不赞成这个建议，更不用说年轻人了。)

7）Ade is handsome and smart, not to mention being a good athlete.

      (艾德不但是位优秀运动员，而且潇洒又精明。)

         这两个短语也可以表示“更不用说”，对全面所述表示进一步的肯定或否定。

1) He can manage the most sophisticated movements, to say nothing of a simple trick like this. 

            （他能做最复杂的动作,更不用说像这样的一个简单的把戏。）

          2）He cannot afford the ordinary comforts of life, not to speak of luxuries.

            （他普通的生活必须品都买不起,更不要说奢侈品了）

 

        needless to say   “不用说”，对后面所述内容表示肯定，相当于 It is needless to say that 。。。。。。的意思。

 

        1) Needless to say, we shall refund any expenses you may incur.

            (不用说，我们会偿还你所担负的任何费用。)

         2) Needless to say, there will be some frictions in the course of the cooperation between our two firms.

             (不用说，在我们两家公司合作的过程中会出现一些摩擦。)
