 语法   in being …… 结构

        To regret one’s errors to the pointof not repeating them is true repentance. There 

is nothing noble in beingsuperior to some other man. The true nobility is in being

superior to yourprevious self.

       错而能改，不踏覆辙，才是真正的悔悟。优于他人并非高贵，真正的高贵在于优于

自己的过去。     

 

注释：

   这是海明威的一句名言。句中有两处用了inbeing …… 结构：1）in being 

superior to some other man 和2）in beingsuperior to your previous self。

   这里 being superior to some other man 和being superior to your previous self 

是动名词短语作介词 in 的宾语。

通常动名词短语是doingsth. (动宾结构)，如是系表结构，则用 “being + 表语”。

“being + 表语”置于介词 in之后，大多表示“在……方面”。

 

例句：

1）Earthenware has an advantage overwood in being more easily kept clean.

陶器的优点在于比木器更容易保持清洁。

2）Their plan had some difficulties in being in operation.

他们在执行计划时遇到一些困难。

3）I am at an unfavourable position in being conversationally unacquainted with 

     English.

我由于不熟悉英语会话而处于不利地位。

4）The Kantian categories differ fromthose of Aristotle in being subjective.

康德哲学的范畴与亚里士多德哲学的范畴的不同在于其主观性。

      5）Margaret takes after her father in being strong-willed.

玛格丽特意志坚强，像她父亲。

      6）He failed in being admitted toa university，but he was not downhearted. 

尽管大学没考上，他也毫不气馁。

    7）There's no point in being nuts if you can't havea little fun. 

如果你不能来点幽默的话，呆着也没有什么意思。

8）I take much pleasure in being with family and friends. 

我从与家人及朋友的相处中得到很多乐趣。
