“名词 + and +名词”的一个特殊用法

“名词+ and + 名词”  有一特殊用法，用于表示比喻（明喻）。 结构中的 and + 名词

是“象 …… 一样”的意思。大家熟悉的英语谚语 Time and tide wait for no man（岁

月不待人）就是典例，时间（岁月）跟潮水一样是不会等待任何人的。? 

“名词+ and + 名词”结构多见用于英语谚语。 

1）A word and a stone let go cannot be recalled. 

一言既出，驷马难追。 （说出去的话像扔出去的石头是收不回的。）

2）Kings and bears often worry their keepers. 

伴君如伴虎。（待在国王身边与待在熊身边一样常让人担忧。）

3）Love andcough can not be hid. 

咳漱忍不住，爱情瞒不住。（恋爱如同咳嗽一样是掩藏不住的。） 

4）Truthand roseshave thorns about them.

   真理如玫瑰, 全身都是刺。

5）Wordsand featherare tossed by the wind.

语言如羽毛, 随风到处刮。

6）Truth and oil are ever above.

   真理和油一样，总是要升到上面来的。

7）Wine and judgment mature with age. 

酒老味醇, 人老识深。

8）Guests and fish stinkwithin three days.

鱼放三天会发臭，客待三天讨人嫌。

9）A strong man and a waterfall cut their own path.

一个坚强的人就像瀑布，能自己开出路来。

10）A false friend and a shadow attend only when the sun shines.

假朋友犹如阴影，只有出太阳时才出现。

11）Secrets and edged tools must be kept from children.

秘密犹如利器，应该让孩子们远离。

12）Of painting and fighting, look aloof.

欣赏油画和看打架一样，要保持摇一定距离。

13）Of soup and love, the first is the best.

犹如初恋最甜蜜，第一口汤最鲜美。
