NEW DELHI: The GST Council may consider reducing the differential across the tax rates for Lithium-ion batteries and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) which are at 18% and 5%, the draft battery swapping policy has proposed among a raft of recommendations to give a fresh boost to adoption of electric vehicles in the country.
Niti Aayog unveiled the draft battery swapping policy on Thursday which stipulates the minimum technical and operational requirements that battery swapping ecosystems would need to fulfil, to enable effective, efficient, reliable, safe, and customer-friendly implementation of battery-swapping infrastructure.
The policy aims to create a framework for greater interoperability while safeguarding the innovation potential for the electric vehicle battery ecosystem. TOI

AHMEDABAD: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is on a two-day India visit, on Thursday held a meeting with industrialist Gautam Adani.
Sources said the two discussed, among other things, key sectors such as energy transition, climate action, aerospace and defence collaboration. With India set to invest $300 billion by 2030 to modernize its armed forces, sources said collaboration in the defence sector was one of the key focus areas of the meeting between Adani and Johnson.
Discussions revolved around how Adani Group and British companies can collaborate to co-design and develop aerospace and defence technologies as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, sources said.

NEW DELHI: India's effective reproduction number (R) for Covid, an indicator of how quickly the infection is spreading, has increased to over one for the first time since January, estimates a researcher from Chennai's Institute of Mathematical Sciences.
The country's R value, steadily increasing over the last few weeks, is 1.07 for the week between April 12-18, according to Sitabhra Sinha.
In An R value over 1 indicates that the number of active cases has increased. R should be contained below 1 to control the pandemic. An R number lower than 1 indicates that the disease will stop spreading as there aren't enough people being infected to sustain the outbreak. TOI
