NEW DELHI: India has been ranked 107th out of 121 countries in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2022; a score of 29.1 puts the country in the "serious" category.
India has slipped 6 places from its 2021 ranking of 101 with a score of 28.2 (among 116 countries).
It is based on four indicators — under-nourishment, wasting (low weight for height), stunting (low height for age) and under-five mortality. Since 2014, India's performance has improved significantly on stunting and infant mortality. However the graphs for wasting and undernourishment have shown a small upward trend, according to GHI data. TOI

MUMBAI: Insurance regulator Irdai has imposed a Rs 3-crore penalty on Max Life for its share sale deal with Axis Bank, which the regulator said circumvented regulations on commission limits.
The penalty is against three charges - misrepresentation to the regulator, higher-than-permitted compensation to the corporate agent, and not following fair market value in share transactions.
Last year, Axis Bank became co-promoter of Max Life after completion of 12.99% by Axis group entities. Axis Bank was also the largest corporate agent distributor for the company. TOI

NEW DELHI: The country's exports rose by 4.82 per cent to $35.45 billion in September, even as the trade deficit widened to $25.71 billion, according to the data released by the commerce ministry on Friday.
In its preliminary data, which was released in the first week of this month, the ministry stated that the country's merchandise exports contracted by 3.52 per cent to $32.62 billion in September.
According to the data released on Friday, imports during the month under review increased by 8.66 per cent to $61.61 billion. The trade deficit in September 2021 was $22.47 billion.

NEW DELHI: Wholesale price-based inflation moderated to an 18-month low in September, providing relief from stubborn price pressures but still remained in double digits for 18-months in a row.
Data released by the commerce and industry ministry on Friday showed inflation, as measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), rose an annual 10.7% in September, slower than the 12.4% in August.
Inflation in September is primarily contributed by rise in prices of mineral oils, food articles, crude petroleum & natural gas, chemicals and chemical products, basic metals, electricity, textiles etc as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
Food inflation moderated to a 10-month low of 8.1% in September from 9.9% in August while core inflation (minus food and fuel) slowed to a 19-month low of 7.0% during the month, led by a softening in global commodity prices and global economic slowdown. TOI
