NEW DELHI: In a farewell meeting on Wednesday with Chinese ambassador Sun Weidong, foreign minister S Jaishankar said normalisation of India-China relations was in the interest of both countries, of Asia and also the “world at large”.
With the two countries yet to fully resolve the eastern Ladakh military stand-off, Jaishankar emphasised that peace and tranquility in the border areas is essential.
While disengagement has been achieved at several friction points, India maintains that the process has to be completed in the remaining areas for restoring normalcy in ties.
Sun said after the meeting that both sides attached great importance to China-India relations and that China was ready to work with the Indian side to promote “the sound and steady development of the bilateral relations along the right track”.
In his farewell remarks on Tuesday, Sun said it is natural for China and India to have some differences but the focus should be to seek common ground for development while resolving pending issues through dialogue. TOI

NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday said that it has asked global messaging app WhatsApp for a report on the long outage of its services on Tuesday.
Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the company has been asked to submit a report over the next 4-5 days, giving out reasons behind the blackout which is being seen as one of the longest outage of the popular platform.
On Tuesday, WhatsApp was down for nearly two hours in India, as part of a global outage, before the services were restored as the technical glitch was resolved. TOI

BEIJING: India and China bilateral trade continued to boom, crossing $100 billion for the second year in the first nine months of 2022 while India's trade deficit climbed to over $ 75 billion, according to trade data released by Chinese customs.
The total bilateral trade went up to 103.63 billion, registering a 14.6 per cent increase compared to last year during the same period.
China's exports to India climbed to 89.66 billion, registering an increase of 31 per cent, data released by China's General Administration of Customs (GAC) said.
However, India's exports in the past nine months stood at $13.97 billion, registering a decline of 36.4 per cent.
As a result, the total trade deficit went up to over $75.69 billion. TOI
