2019 New Year’s Message
Dear fellow citizens of the world,
尊敬的世界公民们：
I wish you a happy, peaceful and prosperous new year.
首先祝大家在新的一年快乐平安、兴旺发达！
Last New Year, I issued a red alert, and the dangers I mentioned still persist. These are anxious times for many, and our world is undergoing a stress test.
去年元旦我发布了红色预警，当时提到的危险依然存在。当前对许多人来说都是一个焦虑的时刻，世界正在经受压力的考验。
Climate change is running faster than we are.
气候变化快过了我们的步伐。
Geo-political divisions are deepening, making conflicts more difficult to resolve.

And record numbers of people are moving in search of safety and protection.
为寻求安全和保护而迁移的人数空前之多。
Inequality is growing. And people are questioning a world in which a handful of people hold the same wealth as half of humanity.

Intolerance is on the rise.

Trust is on the decline.

But there are also reasons for hope.

The agreement signed in Riyadh in September between Ethiopia and Eritrea has eased long-running tensions and brought improved prospects to an entire region.

And the agreement between the parties to the conflict in South Sudan has revitalized chances for peace, bringing more progress in the past four months than in the previous four years.

The United Nations was able to bring countries together in Katowice to approve the Work Programme for the implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Now we need to increase ambition to beat this existential threat.

In recent weeks, the United Nations also oversaw landmark global agreements on migration and refugees, that will help to save lives and overcome damaging myths.

And everywhere, people are mobilizing behind the Sustainable Development Goals – our global blueprint for peace, justice and prosperity on a healthy planet.

When international cooperation works, the world wins.

In 2019, the United Nations will continue to bring people together to build bridges and create space for solutions.

We will keep up the pressure.
我们会保持压力。
And we will never give up.

As we begin this New Year, let’s resolve to confront threats, defend human dignity and build a better future — together.

New Year is a time to look ahead and in 2019 the UK will start a new chapter.

The Brexit deal I have negotiated delivers on the vote of the British people.

It gives us control over our borders, our money and our laws. It is good for jobs, protects our security and works for our whole UK.

In the next few weeks MPs will have an important decision to make. If Parliament backs the deal, Britain can turn a corner.

The referendum in 2016 was divisive but we all want the best for our country.

But important though Brexit is, it is not the only issue that counts. When each of us looks back on 2019, it will be the personal milestones that stand out.

Starting a new school, college or apprenticeship. Getting a job. Starting a business. Earning a pay rise. Buying a house, getting married or starting a family.

These are the things that matter most and by agreeing a good Brexit deal, we can focus our energy on those things.

Strengthening our economy and opening up new markets for our businesses to create new jobs and opportunities across the UK; building the houses our country needs so everyone can have a home of their own and transforming technical education so everyone gains the skills they need to get on.

Our long term plan for the NHS will put a record investment into our most precious public service so it is there for us when we need it.

We will introduce a new skills based immigration system to replace freedom of movement, and by protecting and enhancing our natural environment, we will make Britain a healthier place.

This year the UK has achieved a lot.

The employment rate is at a record high, our debt is starting its first sustained fall in a generation and the number of people in absolute poverty is at a record low.

But a New Year means new potential to do even more, to ensure that everyone in every community can feel the benefit.

Together I believe we can start a new chapter with optimism and hope.

We have all we need to thrive and if we come together in 2019 I know we can make a success of what lies ahead and build a country that truly works for every one of us.
