各种不同表达的TEST OPTIONAL，分析完你就知道要不要考试了！

其实TEST OPTIONAL和TEST FLEXIBLE这两种在疫情前一直是有的，TEST OPTIONAL 的代表学校是芝加哥大学，TEST FLEXIBLE的代表学校是纽约大学。但是，其实申请这两所，很少有听说，谁没有送标化分的吧。所以，其实当时这些事都不是事，但是今年不同了，由于新冠影响，更多的学校在被逼无奈的情况下选择了暂时的TEST OPTIONAL，这下考不考标化成了热门话题了。其实，虽然说都叫差不多的词，但是其实每个学校后面的意思是不一样的，主要有这么几种：

1. 要求外州生和国际生尽量提供标化成绩，本州生不用了，但是在某些特殊情况下，比如选课和奖学金考评的时候依旧会考量标化成绩。

2. 要求尽量提交，没有办法提交的会根据你提供的学术成绩，排名等进行全方位考评。

3. 真心无所谓。

我们来看看如意妈整理出来的TEST OPTIONAL（见2021届申请实行标化可选政策的美国大学）中，排名靠前的学校的说辞，然后你们自己感觉下，是否要考：

1. 芝加哥大学

Your transcript shows your academic record in the context of your school, but, since one school can be very different from another, it is useful to see evidence of academic achievement that exists outside of the context of your school. This is why some colleges ask applicants to submit an SAT or ACT score. For many applicants, an SAT or ACT score can reflect their academic preparedness in this broader context.

Some applicants may feel that an SAT or ACT score does not fully reflect their academic preparedness or potential. If this is the case for you, you may select UChicago’s test-optional method of application and not supply SAT or ACT scores with your application. We welcome any student regardless of testing plan to submit additional materials (detailed in the Supplements section) that they feel best highlights their skills, talents, and potential contributions to UChicago.

明确表明由于每个学校的成绩单不同，没法比对，所以，需要SAT或者ACT来作为统一比对标准。如果SAT，ACT成绩能代表你水平，请递交，如果不能代表你水平，可以不递交。那么请递交能够证明其技能和能力的其他辅助材料。这块看这中性，接着，人家话锋一转

The SAT, ACT, and other standard measures can continue to be an important part of the University of Chicago’s holistic admission process for students electing to send scores and are a required part of the application process at many other highly selective schools. These tests can provide valuable information about a student which we and other colleges will consider alongside the other elements in a student’s application. We encourage students to take standardized tests like the SAT and ACT, and to share your scores with us if you think that they are reflective of your ability and potential. Given that many of our peers do require testing, we anticipate that the vast majority of students will continue to take tests and may still submit their test scores to UChicago.

SAT，ACT是我们的考评的重要指标啊，所以我们还是鼓励递交成绩。大部分学生都递交的。这么一说，明白了吧，回到原地，交吧，没啥好商量的。

2. 康奈尔

Cornell overall has not planned to adopt a test-optional admission policy permanently. As appears to be true at test-optional colleges and universities, we anticipate that many students who will have had reasonable and uninterrupted opportunities to take the ACT and/or SAT during 2020 administrations will continue to submit results, and those results will continue to demonstrate preparation for college-level work.

康奈尔更直接，直接说，我们没有做TEST OPTIONAL的计划，实在是没办法因为疫情。所以说结论，能交必须还是要交。

For those who can’t plan for, take, and submit exams

Cornell readers will consider with increased scrutiny their other application documents, looking for different evidence of excellent academic preparation, including:

challenging courses and excellent grades in each secondary school (high school) context. Note: there will be no negative interpretation for schools and students who have had only pass/fail or similar grading options during this current term;

· evidence of commitment and effort to pursuing other challenging learning experiences; 

· results from other kinds of secondary, college-preparatory, and university-qualifying testing where available and verifiable; 

· care, craft, and authenticity in their writing submissions; 

· and wherever practical and available, details, insight, and analysis from secondary school counselors and teachers.

Applicants with no test results might more often be asked after review has begun for additional evidence of continuing preparation, including grade reports from current senior year enrollment when that can be made available in time for Cornell admission review.

如果你没交，要求你有一堆东西来证明你牛（不翻译了），要求提供这些。你脑补下，谁乐意这么烦。懂了吧，想逃避考试，没这么容易，还是要交！

3. 南加大

This means that prospective first-year students applying for fall 2021 can do so without submitting SAT or ACT scores – although these results can still be submitted if desired.

International applicants whose native language is not English must still demonstrate language proficiency by submitting TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English Test or PTE Academic scores.

南加大比较简单不啰嗦，一句话，尽量提交。国际生语言成绩必须。

4. UC系统大学

这个见我前文TEST OPTIONAL了，标化究竟考不考？，属于造反派， 本州生不需要了，国际生还是需要，写作成绩不需要了。

 (附：这里说一句：前文说的写作不需要了，是指UC体系学校不是所有学校！）

5. 塔弗茨

We believe this policy provides students with maximum flexibility in determining whether to sit for SAT or ACT exams and whether to submit SAT or ACT scores at the time of application to Tufts.  If applicants would like us to consider their exam results as one component of their candidacy, we will do so in a nuanced and contextual way. If students choose not to submit exam results, we will evaluate their candidacy in a nuanced and contextual way without scores. Our holistic, committee-based approach to application review provides us with the flexibility to evaluate academic and extracurricular accomplishments within a student’s individual context.

We do not require SAT Subject Tests, the SAT Essay, or the writing section of the ACT, nor are they reviewed in our evaluation process. 

这所好像真看的不重，标化成绩，交我们看，不交我们也会评审，同时SAT2，SAT作文及ACT作文我们不要。目测这所是最中性的。

其他学校不带你们一所所翻了，你们自己去查找吧。所以，同样都是TEST OPTIONAL的学校，但是其实态度是不一样的，要一所所学校的政策细品过去，有的说不要，是真不要，有的是没办法，跟着说了，其实心里一百个想要。老外说话也是转弯的，建议每个申请的孩子，自己去仔细阅读，然后考量下，是否要递交成绩。
