当你已经准备好提交论文时，很多期刊会要求作者同时附上cover letter。对于一些出版商来说，这封信只是一种形式，强调你没有利益冲突，没有提交你的论文给其他一些杂志，并强调所有作者都同意提交。但是一些期刊想要的不仅仅是这些信息，他们会要求作者阐明为什么他们的论文适合该期刊，cover letter能影响编辑的决定，如果不合适，论文甚至可以不经过审查就返回给你。
所以，一封好的cover letter能给编辑带来好印象，引起编辑足够的兴趣，仔细阅读你的文章，并选择发送给同行评议。以下是一封好的cover letter应该包括的内容，撰写步骤与技巧。
一般应该先去查询目的期刊的authors info/manuscript guidelines之类的作者指南，下面也提供了一些cover letter常见内容，以供大家检查与补充。
基本信息
期刊有关信息：编辑姓名、期刊名称
论文有关信息：论文标题、文章类型（评论，研究，案例研究等）、提交日期、研究的简要背景以及想解决的研究问题、研究意义或重要性（比如研究如何增进我们对概念的理解）、所用方法的简要概述
作者有关信息：通讯作者联系方式、声明您的论文先前未曾发表过，并且目前尚未被另一种期刊审议，并且所有作者均已批准并同意将其投稿至该期刊
常要求的其他信息
已发表的类似文章的简短列表
提及之前与编辑进行的任何讨论（例如，如果您在会议上与编辑讨论了该主题）
评估论文所需的技术专业
可能的审稿人及其联系信息（但是现在这部分内容基本上都在投稿系统里面完成）
期刊要求的其他披露/声明（例如，遵守道德标准，利益冲突，同意提交条款，版权签署等）

TIP: All cover letters should contain these sentences:
We confirm that this manuscript has not been published elsewhere and is not under consideration by another journal.
All authors have approved the manuscript and agree with its submission to [insert the name of the target journal].

开头
应该包括编辑姓名，职称或学历；编辑的头衔；期刊名称；提交日期；礼貌称谓
TIPS: 用 "Ms." ，不要用 "Mrs." or "Miss" 。
不要用 "Dear Sirs" 或类似的表达，许多编辑会觉得这是一种侮辱，尤其是考虑到许多编辑是女性!

TIPS：不要简单地说你的手稿是“该期刊感兴趣的”。要针对期刊陈述的目标和范围的具体方面。比如，如果该杂志对临床应用的研究感兴趣，一定要强调你的工作在临床应用方面的重要性；如果该杂志提到它关注纳米结构材料，请解释你的工作是如何涉及到这些材料的。

应该包括Thank you for your consideration!/sincerely，之类的礼貌用语；通讯作者的信息；也可以多加一个联系信息
针对下面的[Cover letter要注意什么？——一些应该避免的做法]，多次通读cover letter以校对和修改，使内容简洁明了。删除与写信目的，论文主要结果以及最重要的发现和结论不直接相关的任何句子。在修改时，要问自己是否清楚地表达了论文发现的影响，新颖性。
不要使用过多的行话或过多的缩略语，保持语言简单易懂
不要复制摘要到信中，而要用自己的话解释工作的重要性，所要解决的问题以及手稿为什么属于该期刊
不要过分夸大你的的发现或其意义。避免使用“有史以来”之类的词。这些类型的陈述将使编辑质疑你客观评估作品优劣的能力。
不要冗杂，除非绝对必要，否则Cover letter不得超过一页。修改所有很长的，重复的，表达不清楚的或太多细节的句子。
不要遗漏必要信息，确认Cover letter中包含目标期刊要求的所有要素。
不要使用夸张的奉承。避免使用“prestigious”之类的词来描述期刊。
避免过多的细节，例如，解释具体的技术，列出样本大小和p值。
避免幽默。尽管我们想引起编辑的注意，但幽默很可能会出错！
避免任何拼写和语法错误。
