问：先生，我们为何希望有伴侣？

Krishnamurti:A girl asks why we want a companion. Why does one want a companion?Can you live alone in this world without a husband or a wife,without children, without friends?

克：一个女孩问我们为什么希望有伴侣。一个人为什么希望有伴侣？你能否独自活在世上而没有丈夫或妻子、没有孩子、没有朋友？

Mostpeople cannot live alone, therefore they need companions. Itrequires enormous intelligence to be alone; and you must be aloneto find God, truth. It is nice to have a companion, a husband or awife, and also to have babies; but you see, we get lost in allthat, we get lost in the family, in the job, in the dull,monotonous routine of a decaying existence. We get used to it, andthen the thought of living alone becomes dreadful, something to beafraid of.

大部分人都不能独自生活，因此他们需要伴侣。独处需要极大的智慧，而你必须独处才能发现神或真理。有伴侣、有丈夫或妻子或是小孩都是很好的，但是你知道，我们就在其中迷失了，我们在家庭及工作中迷失了，在我们腐化的生活中那些无聊、单调的例行公事中迷失了。我们习惯了这种生存方式，于是哪怕只是想到独自生活，都会变成一件可怕的、恐怖的事。

Mostof us have put all our faith in one thing, all our eggs in onebasket, and our lives have no richness apart from our companions,apart from our families and our jobs. But if there is a richness inone's life - not the richness of money or knowledge, which anyonecan acquire, but that richness which is the movement of realitywith no beginning and no ending - then companionship becomes asecondary matter. 

我们大部分人把我们的信念都放在一件事情上面，把所有的鸡蛋都放在一个篮子里，如果离开了我们的伴侣，离开了我们的家庭和工作，我们的生活就不再丰饶了。但是如果一个人的生活本身就是丰饶的——我不是指金钱、知识上的丰富，因为那是人人都可以获得的——我指的是无始无终处在真相的活动中这样的丰饶，那么伴侣关系就变成次要的事了。

But,you see, you are not educated to be alone. Do you ever go out for awalk by yourself? It is very important to go out alone, to situnder a tree - not with a book, not with a companion, but byyourself - and observe the falling of a leaf, hear the lapping ofthe water, the fisherman's song, watch the flight of a bird, and ofyour own thoughts as they chase each other across the space of yourmind.  

但是你知道，没有人教你独处。你可曾独自出去散步？独自出去走走，坐在一棵树下——不带书，没有伴侣，完全独自一人——观察飘落的树叶，聆听潺潺的流水和渔夫的歌声，看鸟儿飞翔，看你纷飞的思绪横穿脑际、互相追逐，这么做真的很重要。 

Ifyou are able to be alone and watch these things, then you willdiscover extraordinary riches which no government can tax, no humanagency can corrupt, and which can never be destroyed.

如果你能够独处并观察这些东西，那么你就会发现非凡的丰饶，这种丰饶政府无法课税，人类的组织无法腐蚀，它永远也不会被破坏。
