that.   这个句子意思能明白，但不知道句中and …… at that 是什么意思？

答： 这个句子的意思是： 他提前完成了工作，而且当时他还在生病。   

and …… at that  是一个英语中的特殊强调句式，用于对前面所描述的内容进行补充或强

调。被补充说明或被强调的可以是表语、宾语或状语。

上面这个句子相当于 It was when he was not in good health that he finished the

work ahead of time. （他是在身体状况不好的情况下，提前完成了这项工作）。虽然意义

上相同，但表达的语气一样。 用 and …… at that 强调，语气更强。这个句子被强调的是状

语，大多是用于强调表语和宾语。
