at, by, beside均表示“在…旁边”，next to表示“紧靠…的旁边”。比如：

She sat down at the desk and began writing.

她在书桌旁坐下，开始写作。

He stood by the window and looked at the garden below.

他站在窗边，看着下面的花园。

I saw a pair of sports shoes beside the locker.

我看见锁柜旁有一双运动鞋。

The white building next to the post office is a new hospital.

邮局隔壁那幢白色的楼房是新医院。

The theatre near my home is very modern.

我家附近的剧场很现代化。

on常用于表示“在…边”。比如：

Go straight ahead and you will see abridge on your right.

一直向前走，你可以看见一座桥在你右边。

The bookstore is on the left side of the street.

书房在街的左边。
