一道湖南高考题的两处命题失误

 最近为《第二课堂》杂志审稿，读到了这样一篇文章（作者陈穆嘉），让人震惊——“一道”高考题，“两处”错误! 该文经《第二课堂》发表后，国内知名英语网站《英语语法网》(www.yygrammar.com)、《高考英语网》(www.nmet168.com)、《英语词汇网》(www.yywords.com)等均作了转载，引起了很大反响。现全文引录如下，希望引起有关高考命题专家的注意。
2009 年高考英语的湖南卷有这样一道题：

— The food here is nice enough.

— My friend ________ me a right place.

A. introduces                                B. introduced   

C. had introduced                        D. was introducing

选对该题的答案并不难：根据对话内容可知，此刻说话者就在其朋友介绍的那个餐馆用餐，所以其朋友给他们介绍这家餐馆肯定是在此之前，故用一般过去时。即选 B。

但是，笔者认为，这道题中的 My friend introduced me a right place 一句有两处用法上的问题。

 

1. introduce是否接双宾语的问题
从句法上分析，题中 My friend introduced me a right place 一句的谓语动词 introduce 后接的是双宾语。但它符合英语习惯吗？请看以下有关用法说明：
(1) 我国英语惯用法泰斗葛传椝先生曾在其《英语惯用法词典》（上海译文出版社）上指出：
introduce 不可有双宾语，如不可说 Allow me to introduce you my friend Mr P. D. Porter，该在 introduce 后面加上to。
(2) 英国著名语言学家 L. G. Alexander 出版的《英语词汇用法手册》（外语教学与研究出版社）认为：
可以说：Marion introduced her friends to Tom.
但不能说：Marion introduced Tom her friends.
(3) 中国国际广播出版社出版的《大学英语重点词正误用法手册》（周贞雄编著）在 introduce 词条给出的正误句型和有关分析如下：
让我把我的朋友介绍给你。
误：Let me introduce you my friend.
正：Let me introduce my friend to you.
析：introduce（介绍）通常不接双宾语。

(4) 外文出版社出版的《新时代英语惯用法词典》（王福祯主编）在 introduce 词条指出：

introduce 后不可接双宾语。

由此可见，introduce 后接双宾语的用法不妥的，是不符合英语惯用法的。

2. 对introduce的理解和用法问题

虽然一般英汉词典都将 introduce 译为“介绍”，但这并不是说汉语中的“介绍”就一定可以用 introduce 来翻译。下面我们先来看看几本英语词典对 introduce 在表示“介绍”时的解释：

(1)《剑桥高级英语词典》对 introduce 的解释是：

to tell someone another person’s name the first time that they meet（当两个人见面时告诉某人另一个人的名字）

(2)《朗文当代英语词典》对introduce的解释是：

if you introduce someone to another person, you tell them each other’s names for the first time（如果你把某人介绍给另一个人，你就是第一次告诉他们彼此的名字）

(3)《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》第 6 版对 introduce 的相关解释如下：

①to tell two or more people who have not met before what each others’ names are（告诉两个或多个原来未曾见面的人他们彼此的名字）

②to tell the audience the name of the person who is going to speak or perform（告诉观众讲演者或演员的名字）

 

▲由此可见，introduce 表示“介绍”时，主要用于介绍两个不认识的互相认识，或是向听众或观众宣布并介绍演讲者等。如：

She introduced me to her brother. 她把我介绍给她哥哥。

It is my pleasure to introduce tonight’s speaker. 我很荣幸来介绍今晚的演讲者。

On being introduced, British people often shake hands. 英国人被介绍给别人的时候常常和对方握手。

Hi! I thought I’d come over and introduce myself. My name’s Andy. 嗨! 我觉得应该过来自我介绍一下。我叫安迪。

 

▲现在我们再来看看这道来自湖南卷的高考题：
— The food here is nice enough. 这儿的食物相当不错。

— My friend introduced me a right place. 我的朋友为我介绍了一个很不错的地方。

很显然，句中的 introduce 不是在“介绍人们互相认识”，而是在“为某人介绍一个地方”，而这与 introduce 的用法显然并不吻合。

事实上，题干中说的“介绍”，其实是指“推荐”，所以我们认为应将句中的 introduce 改为 recommend，即应改为：

My friend recommended me a right place.

 

▲英语惯用法专家葛传椝教授在其《英语惯用法词典》（上海译文出版社）上指出：
说“介绍”书报等，该用 recommend，不该用 introduce，如可以说 Can you recommend (me) a dictionary? 不可说 Can you introduce (me) a dictionary?

下面我们再来看看两个用 recommend 表示“介绍”的例子：

Can you recommend me a good novel? 你给我介绍一本好的小说行吗? （摘自《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》第 6 版 recommend 词条）

Jamie sought out an inexpensive boarding-house recommended to him by a sailor aboard ship. 杰米找到了一个便宜的供膳宿舍，那是船上一名水手向他介绍的。（摘自《薄冰高级英语语法》第 3.61 节）

顺便说一句，还经常听到有的人在表示“介绍情况”“介绍某学校”“介绍某国家”“介绍某机构”等场合使用 introduce，其实也是对 introduce 的误用。
