May Day also means a day of flowers, and it's a traditional(with a long history) festival in Britain and other countries in Europe(欧洲). This festival has a long history and went to the USA with the British immigrants(people who move to live in another country).

What do people do on May Day? Can you guess from these two pictures?
On May Day, people have a holiday and have fun. They sing and dance!
People wear their beautiful clothes and dance around a tall pole. Many colourful ribbons are tied to the top of the pole. People hold the other end of the ribbons and dance together.
It's called the Maypole Dance, and the tall pole is called the maypole.
If the maypole is very tall, many strong people will work together to make it stand upright.
But if the maypole is for the children, it can be a short one.
When people dance, sometimes the colourful ribbons will become a beautiful pattern on the maypole.
Isn't the pattern beautiful?
Of course, this dance had a long history. We can find many pictures of the maypole dance. Some pictures are very old.
