很多人都知道home是家的意思，但是与home一起用的很多常用词，可就未必都知道了，我们今天一起来学习一下：

hometown:  家乡;故乡。The town or city that a person is from, especially the one in which they were born and lived while they were young: 一个人来自的城镇或城市，尤指他们年轻时出生和生活的城镇或城市。

He was born in Miami, but he considers New York his hometown since he's lived there most of his life. 

他虽出生在迈阿密，但是他却认为纽约是他的故乡，因为他一生的大部分时间都是在那里度过的。

homesick:  思乡的;想家的;患怀乡病的。If you are homesick, you feel unhappy because you are away from home and are missing your family, friends, and home very much. 如果你想家，你会觉得不开心，因为你离家在外，非常想念你的家人、朋友和家。

She's feeling a little homesick. 她感觉有点想家了。

home run：（棒球的）本垒打。In baseball, a home run is a hit that allows the batter to run around all four bases and score a run. 在棒球运动中，本垒打是一种击球手击球后，可以连续完成在四个垒上跑动并得分。

Ruth hit sixty home runs that year.  露丝那年打了60个全垒打。

home office：家庭办公室。A room or area in someone's home that they use to work at job.  一些人家中用来工作的房间或区域。

After dropping her 3-year-old at preschool, she returns to her home office.  在把3岁的孩子送到幼儿园后，她回到了家中的办公室。

The home office is the department of the British Government which is responsible for things such as the police, broadcasting, and making decisions about people who want to come to live in Britain.英国内政部是英国政府的一个部门，负责诸如警察、广播等事务，并对那些想来英国生活的人做出决定。

homeschool：在家上学。To teach a child at home rather than sending him or her to school 在家教孩子而不是送他或她上学。

Many parents decide to homeschool their children for religious reasons.  许多父母出于宗教原因决定在家教育孩子。

nursing home：养老院 A public or private residential facility providing a high level of long-term personal or nursing care for persons (such as the aged or the chronically ill) who are unable to care for themselves properly  公共或私人的、为不能照顾自己的人（如老年人或慢性病患者）提供高水平的长期的、个人护理的设施。

After a lengthy period of care at home, she was first admitted to hospital, then to a nursing home.  在家照顾了很长一段时间后，她先住进了医院，然后又住进了养老院。

home alone：独自在家 (Social Welfare) informal (esp of a young child) left in a house, flat, etc unattended  （社会福利）非正式的（尤指把小孩）留在房子、公寓等无人看管的地方

Home alone(1990) ：a US humorous film in which Macauley Culkin appears as a young boy who is accidentally left at home alone when his parents go on holiday, and who has to prevent two criminals from getting into his home and stealing things from it  《独自在家》也叫《小鬼当家》（1990）：一部美国幽默电影，麦考利·卡尔金扮演一个小男孩，他的父母去度假时，意外地把他留在家里，他不得不阻止两个罪犯进入他的家里偷东西。

homey：愉快舒适的; 像家一样的  (of a place or surroundings) pleasantly comfortable and cozy.  （指一个地方或环境）非常舒适。

The hotel was homey and comfortable.  这家旅馆想家一样舒服。

homemade: 自制的  Made at home, rather than in a store or factory.  在家里做的，而不是在商店或工厂里做的。

Farmers' markets are a traditional way of selling homemade products effectively.  农贸市场是有效销售自制产品的传统方式。

lengthy 很长的; 漫长的; 冗长的

unattended  无人看管(或照料)的

surroundings 环境
