This summer, cinemagoers might have to take tissues on their trips to movie theaters. 

这个暑假，去看电影的路上，最好带上纸巾。

In the first weekend of August, a new tear-jerking blockbuster is hitting domestic theaters. It's The Bravest, based on true events about heroic firefighters.

八月的第一个周末，又有一部催人泪下的大片上映，这就是根据消防英雄们的真实故事改编的《烈火英雄》。

According to movie statistics tracking app Beacon, in 12 hours on the film's opening day, its box office haul surpassed 100 million yuan, hitting seven out of ten on Douban and 9.3 of ten on Taopiaopiao on its first day.

根据灯塔的数据，首日上映仅短短半天，该片票房就突破1亿。上映第一天，连一向苛刻的豆瓣都给了7分。此外，更能代表普罗大众口味的淘票票，则打出了9.3分。

The figure is uplifting. The last such film which quickly grossed 100 million yuan box office on its opening day was Dying to Survive, which earned 160 million yuan on the first day and soared to top the ticket revenue charts in summer 2018.

可以说这个成绩极大鼓舞了国产片。在《烈火英雄》之前，上一部能在工作日首映当日就实现票房破亿的国产电影，是一年前的《我不是药神》，其首日票房为1.6亿。药神也一路劈荆斩棘，问鼎2018年暑期档票房冠军。

Over recent years, China's total number of film screens has climbed to the top of the world rankings, and the country's film industry now produces over 1,000 feature-length films a year. But very few films center on firefighting. The Bravest, jointly produced by Bona Film Group and Alibaba Pictures, has filled that gap.

近年来，中国银幕数达到全球第一，电影年产量已达上千部，但关于消防题材的影片，还是寥寥可数。由博纳影业和阿里影业出品的《烈火英雄》恰恰弥补了这方面的空白。

One of the film's highlights is that it's adapted from Lu Xun Literary Prize-winning writer Baoerji Yuanye's non-fiction work Zui Shen De Shui Shi Leisui (The Deepest Water is Tears), about an oil pipeline blast in Xingang Port in Dalian in 2010. Most sequences in the film are inspired by the real-life experience of firefighters who fought and extinguished the fire.

影片的亮点之一，就是改编自鲁迅文学奖得主鲍尔吉·原野的报告文学《最深的水是泪水》，取材于2010年大连新港输油管道爆炸事故。影片中的故事也大多来自消防员的真实经历。

As a renowned author from Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Baoerji Yuanye once said that the work was the most difficult to write in his literary career spanning three decades, as more than one of the firefighters burst into tears during his interviews.

这位内蒙古作家曾说过，写这部报告文学，是他三十年文学创作生涯以来最艰难的一次经历。在采访过程中，有不止一位消防员，在回忆时忍不住大哭起来。

The accident in Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning province, is still etched in the minds of most locals. 

那场事故，可能迄今仍是大连人记忆中难以抹去的惊心动魄。

On July 16, 2010, an explosion hit two oil pipelines at Dalian Xingang Port, causing a severe fire and triggering a massive oil spill in the sea. A government investigation showed the explosion was caused by improper injections of strongly oxidizing desulfurizer into the oil pipeline after an oil vessel had finished unloading oil. More than 2,000 firefighters battled with the fire for over 15 hours before putting it out.

2010年7月16日，辽宁大连新港港区内两条输油管道发生爆炸，引发严重火灾和大规模的海上石油泄漏。事故原因经政府部门调查，发现是在一艘油轮暂停卸油后，还违规继续向输油管道注入含强氧化剂的原油脱硫剂，造成管道内爆炸。两千多名消防员奋战了15个小时，才扑灭了大火。

Director Tony Chan was previously best known for urban romance films, but his new directorial effort has proved he can excel at shooting mainstream blockbusters. 

导演陈国辉虽然是拍都市爱情片出身，《烈火英雄》却见证了他向主旋律英雄大片转型的努力。

To recreate how firefighters live and work, Chan's preparations were fastidious, including interviews with 81 firefighters from six squadrons and two brigades.

为了真实还原消防员的工作和生活，陈国辉前期做足了功课，采访了6个消防中队和2个消防大队的81名消防员。

Meanwhile, the big-budget film constructed a life-size replica of the oil tank storage area in the Port of Dalian, covering 50,000 square meters and featuring 50 fire engines, for the main firefighting sequences. Actors challenged their physical limits, spending around 840 hours filming on a set filled with fires and explosions. 

同时，这部大手笔的电影还以1:1的实景搭建了油罐区爆炸的火灾现场，搭建罐区的总面积达到50000平方米，调用消防车共50辆，主创们挑战身体极限亲历火场拍摄840个小时。

To best appreciate every detail, I watched the film in IMAX on Aug 1. It's a visual feast, with panoramic landscapes shot by cameras high in the sky.

为了看清每一个细节，我特意在8月1日上映首日去看了IMAX版，当硕大的屏幕出现油罐区的鸟瞰全景时，那场面的确相当震撼。

There are many emotional scenes in the film. In one scene, lead firefighter, played by Huang Xiaoming, dressed in a thermal suit, knows his life is in danger but still chooses to rush into the fire to shut off oil tank valves. In another, the team leader, played by Du Jiang, records every firefighter's last words with his cellphone after they insisted on staying in a dangerous area to avoid another explosion.

影片中有许多催人泪下的场景：黄晓明饰演的角色穿着隔热服，在熊熊火海中执行几乎是自杀式的任务去关上油罐阀门；杜江饰演的队长带领队员，用手机集体录上“遗言”，在退无可退之际，不惜联手以血肉之躯做最后的守护。

The Bravest is a movie that salutes the heroes who rushed headfirst into the disaster, unlike civilians who ran the other way. If you want to know more about firefighters' jobs and lives, it's the film for you this summer.

这部向最美的“逆行者”致敬的影片，或许是这个暑假不应在大屏幕上错过的。
