buy a pig in a poke
A careful person will not buy a pig in a poke.
She often goes to town to buy a pig in a poke.
However, consumers need to be careful in case they buy a pig in a poke and find no legal means of protecting their rights.
A Dialogue conteinyng the nomber in effect of all the Prouerbes in the Englishe tongue(1555-60)中,引用了最为接近该习语的现代版本:
I will neuer bye the pyg in the poke : Thers many a foule pyg in a feyre cloke.
在欧洲的其他语言里,也有类似的习语表达,只不过其版本一般是buy a cat in a bag。
