（一）定义
英语中用来连接句子成分或不同句子的词语叫作连词（Conjunctions）。
英语中的连词主要分为并列连词（Coordinating conjunctions）和从属连词（Subordinating conjunctions）。但是，在英语的并列连词中，还有一类成对使用的特殊连词叫作关联连词（Correlative conjunctions）。
（二）并列列词
常见的并列连词主要有：for（因为）, and（而且）, nor（也不）, but（但是）, or（或者；否则）, yet（然而）, so（因此），可以通过fanboys来识记这些连词，因为这些连词的首字母刚好可以组成单词fanboys（粉宝们）。此外，当while表“然而”时，也是用作并列连词。如：
I will get financial aid for college, for I applied on the first
day.
I went to the station and waited for half an hour.
Worms cannot swim, nor can they walk.
I can understand everything but I can't speak very well.
We can watch a movie or have dinner outside.
Fred is very good at math, yet he is majoring in biology.
She loved flying, so she flew as much as she could.
在英语中还有一些成对使用的并列连词，叫作关联连词，主要有：both...and..., either...or..., neither...nor..., not only..., but also...。如：
Both Mia and Katie are coming.
Neither my parents nor my friend approves my work.
You either come with us or I will punish you.
She is not only beautiful but also very intelligent.
（三）从属连词
英语中用来连接从句的连词叫作从属连词，根据主从句的逻辑关系不同，从属连词可表达时间、地点、原因、结果、目的、比较、方式、条件和让步等关系，如：
After she (had) made a phone call, she left home. （时间）
He follows me wherever I go. （地点）
Because she was tired, she went straight to the bed. （原因）
She is such a lovely girl that everyone likes her very much. （结果）
I want to improve my English so that I can communicate better. （目的）
She runs much faster than Jane. （比较）
I will cook the fish as you have told me. （方式）
I will help you as long as you don't disappoint me. （条件）
Although it was raining, she went out for a walk. （让步）
