Lesson 41 Penny’s bag

Is that bag heavy, Penny?

Not very.

Here!

Put it on this chair.

What’s in it?

A piece of cheese.

A loaf of bread.

A bar of soap.

A bar of chocolate.

A bottle of milk.

A pound of sugar.

Half a pound of coffee.

A quarter of a pound of tea.

And a tin of tobacco.

Is that tin of tobacco for me?

Well, it’s certainly not for me!

注意其中的a piece of，这是本课侧重学习的重点内容：表量的名词。

英语中，不可数名词的量通常通过表量的名词来表达。

按照表量名词的性质，可以分为：

1）按名词形状分，如：piece, bar, loaf。
2）按名词份量分，如：pound, kilogram, litre。
3）按包装容器分，如：box, bag, tin。
4）按行为动态分，如：fit, flash, display。

其用法为：

a+表量的名词+of+不可数名词

如：

a bar of chocolate （一块巧克力）
a pound of sugar （一磅白糖）
a box of milk （一盒牛奶）
a fit of laughter （一阵大笑）

其复数的用法为：

基数词+表量名词的复数+of+不可数名词

其中，表量的名词的复数前也可以不加任何数词。如：

three bars of chocolate （三块巧克力）
two pounds of sugar （两磅白糖）
ten boxes of milk （十盒牛奶）
fits of laughter （阵阵大笑）

此外，表量的名词也可以修饰可数名词。如：

a bag of books （一袋书）
three boxes of pens （三盒笔）

注意该句中的for表示“为...”，其用法为：

sth. be for sb.

如：

These pens are for you.

这些钢笔是给你的。
The bookshelf is for my daughter.
这个书架是给我女儿的。
