一、课文原文
Lesson 80 The Crystal Palace
Perhaps the most extraordinary building of the nineteenth century was the Crystal Palace, which was built in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition of 1851. The Crystal Palace was different from all other buildings in the world, for it was made of iron and glass. It was one of the biggest buildings of all time and a lot of people from many countries came to see it. A great many goods were sent to the exhibition from various parts of the world. There was also a great deal of machinery on display. The most wonderful piece of machinery on show was Nasmyth's steam hammer. Though in those days, travelling was not as easy as it is today, steam boats carried thousands of visitors across the Channel from Europe. On arriving in England, they were taken to the Crystal Palace by train. There were six million visitors in all, and the profits from the exhibition were used to build museums and colleges. Later, the Crystal Palace was moved to South London. It remained one of the most famous buildings in the world until it was burnt down in 1936.

（一）同级比较
也叫原级比较，主要用来表示两个人或物一样得如何，其基本用法为：
A+ be + as + 形容词 + as + B
A+ do + as + 副词 + as + B
其中，A和B是比较对象，即跟谁比，而形容词和副词为比较内容，即比什么。如：
The pen is as long as that one.
He runs as fast as Jack.
同级比较的否定结构为：
A+ be + not as / so + 形容词 + as + B
A+ do + not as / so + 副词 + as + B
如：
The pen is not as / so long as that one.
He does not run as / so fast as Jack.
（二）比较级
主要用来表示某人或某物比其他人或物更加如何，其基本用法为：
A+ be + more + 形容词 + than + B
A+ do + more + 副词 + than + B
其中，A和B是比较对象，即跟谁比，而形容词和副词为比较内容，即比什么。如：
The pen is longer than that one.
He runs faster than Jack.
比较级的否定结构为：
A+ be + not more + 形容词 + than + B
A+ do + not more + 副词 + than + B
如：
The pen is not longer than that one.
He does not run faster than Jack.
（三）最高级
主要用来表示某人或某物最如何，其基本用法为：
A+ be + the most + 形容词 + in / of / among + B
A+ do + the most + 副词 + in / of / among + B
其中，A为比较对象，而B为比较范围，形容词和副词为比较内容。如：
The pen is the longest among all those pens.
He runs the fastest in his class.
最高级的否定结构为：
A+ be + not the most + 形容词 + in / of / among + B
A+ do + not the most + 副词 + in / of / among + B
如：
The pen is not the longest among all those pens.
He does not run the fastest in his class.
（四）异同的表达
如果要比较人或物的异同，常见的表达方式有：
1、相同
如果要比较相同点，常见的方式有be the same as或be like，如：
Our children go to the same school as theirs.
My new job is much the same as the old one.
The world is like a fleeting show.
2、相似
常见的表达相似点的方式有be similar to。如：
Their house is very similar to ours, but ours is bigger.
3、不同
常见的表达不同点的方式有be different from，如：
Our village is very different from what it was before.
