Management

EARLY MANAGEMENT 

Treatment should not await full and detailed diagnosis. It is vital to keep a sense of priorities and to act on any information that is already available while moving along to the next diagnostic hurdle. ‘Management’ in this context is a combination of assessment and treatment, following the ATLS protocols.  

Six questions must be asked and the answers acted upon as they emerge:

· Is there a clear airway?

· Are the lungs adequately ventilated?

· Is the patient losing blood?

· Is there an intra-abdominal injury?

· Is there a bladder or urethral injury?

· Is the pelvic fracture stable or unstable?
