解释：由于文化习俗和思维方式不同，英语常采用不同的婉转方式表示客气、谦虚、礼貌等，翻译成汉语要符合汉语的习惯说法，有时汉语比较直一些，如You are telling me的意思是“这还用你告诉我吗”；再如You’ve stolen my question，意为“我正想问你呢”，可以说此句与之有异曲同工之妙，
第二个人的意思是说“我和你一样不知道”。（原句的字面意思是：“你猜吧，我也只能猜测而已”。）
请看这一句：I’ve done my best,and my best is as good as every one else’s best.前半句好理解：“我尽了最大努力”，可是，如何理解后半句my best is as good as everyone else’s best呢？直译成“我的最大努力和别人的最大努力一样”没有表现出原话的真实意义，而且逻辑有问题。因为谁都知道，人的能力是不一样的。其实，这句话的意思是强调说话人“和所有的人/别人一样，都尽了最大的努力（尽管看起来他做得可能没有有些人那么好）”。▲
