lwIP is a small independent implementation of the TCP/IP protocol suite that has been initially developed by Adam Dunkels and is now continued here.
The focus of the lwIP TCP/IP implementation is to reduce resource usage while still having a full scale TCP. This makes lwIP suitable for use in embedded systems with tens of kilobytes of free RAM and room for around 40 kilobytes of code ROM.
Main features include:
- Protocols: IP, ICMP, UDP, TCP, IGMP, ARP, PPPoS, PPPoE
- DHCP client, DNS client, AutoIP/APIPA (Zeroconf), SNMP agent (private MIB support)
- APIs: specialized APIs for enhanced performance, optional Berkeley-alike socket API
- Extended features: IP forwarding over multiple network interfaces, TCP congestion control, RTT estimation and fast recovery/fast retransmit
- Addon applications: HTTP server, SNTP client, SMTP client, ping, NetBIOS nameserver
lwIP is licenced under a BSD-style license: http://lwip.wikia.com/wiki/License.
Contrib code (including example ports and addon applications) is available here:

lwIP 1.4.1 is now available from the lwIP download area on savannah or via git (using the STABLE-1_4_1 tag).
lwIP 1.4.0 is now available via CVS (using the STABLE-1.4.0) or from the lwIP download area on savannah.
A new (second) release candidate has been prepared for lwIP 1.4.0.
It is available via the CVS tag STABLE-1_4_0-rc2 tag, or by downloading the zip files from the lwIP project's savannah download area.
Thanks to all those involved.
There is now a driver download area in the lwIP wiki where everyone can add their netif driver to share with other lwIP users: http://lwip.wikia.com/wiki/Available_device_drivers
Please feel free to add your own driver to this list (along with a description for which version of lwIP it is).
If you do not have webspace available to upload the driver (the wiki can only contain download links to external servers), please contact us via the lwip-devel mailing list to upload the drivers.
