The DeLorean Time Machine
Back to the future - inspiration
Since I was a child, I have always felt that the time machine from Back to the Future, with its ability to let people travel through time, would be perfectly suited to the world of LEGO® building. As a child I often attempted to build the time machine, but back then I didn’t have the right bricks or building skills.
Many years later I met Sakuretsu, a mini-figure builder from Japan. In the summer of 2011, we teamed up to submit the “BTTF Time Machine” to the LEGO Cuusoo website. The road to gathering the required 10,000 supporters was long and hard. But thanks to Sakuretsu’s enthusiasm and the encouragement from various media sites and supporters, I was able to see my dream become an official LEGO product. Thinking about my life until now, I realize that I have always been led by the sayings in the Back to the Future movie:
“If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything. Your future is whatever you make it.”

Mission to Mars: Curiosity Rover
A word from the model creator
“I am a Mechanical Engineer who worked on the actual Curiosity rover at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. I combined this firsthand experience with my LEGO® hobby to create a LEGO model that was as faithful to the actual rover as possible in terms of accuracy, details, and mechanical function, while remaining at a reasonable size.”
“The primary purpose of this effort has been to contribute to the educational outreach for this incredible mission. It is my hope that this model encourages the public support that is integral to the continued development and exploration of outer space.”
Once it was decided that the Curiosity model was going to be produced, a team of experienced LEGO designers evaluated the design and suggested some minor improvements to ensure a LEGO building experience that matches the standards of our own designs.

这款作品同样为2014年发售，发售后也是并不热卖，但是当很多人开始将其与21103一起来展示后，拥有了欧美玩家儿时的怀旧感还是感染了更多玩家，虽然乐高很快宣布了这款停产，但是市场价格一直也没有涨。对比之后乐高发售的75828，还是这款21108设计的更好一些。

Peter’s Exo Suit model was originally created as a walking mechanical maintenance unit. As he explains, “I tried to make the Exo Suit look as cool as possible, which took a long time to get right. The Big Bang Theory
“Knock knock knock Alatariel, knock knock knock Alatariel,
knock knock knock Alatariel…”
Glen Bricker (Glen Wadleigh) had to “pull a Sheldon” for months to convince Alatariel (Ellen Kooijman) that The Big Bang Theory LEGO® set she built would make a great LEGO Ideas project. “As a fan of the show I had built the set to have a fun display piece on my shelf. I didn’t think it would stand a chance at being produced, but Glen was certain this would be a hit.”
The real-life scientist (Ellen) and programmer/engineer (Glen), who became friends through the LEGO Ideas platform (formerly Cuusoo), decided to team up and give the popular show they both very much relate to an offi cial tribute in LEGO form. “Our complementary talents enabled a fruitful collaboration, with Glen in charge of minifi gure development and project promotion, and me taking care of set design.”

WALL·E
“I started building the LEGO® version of WALL·E around the same time he was being built in the computer at Pixar, in the late summer of 2005. The color scheme of the character wasn’t settled so I started building with all light gray. As we refined the robot’s design for the film, I would update my LEGO model. Once we got busier on the film, I had less time to build, so I put him on the shelf for a while.
Once we finished animation production in 2008, I rebuilt him with the proper colors. The original treads I used were too small and pretty flimsy, but a LEGO bulldozer had been launched by then, which gave me my solution.
After I submitted the design to LEGO Ideas, I did a few more revisions to the model to make it more accurate to the character design. Having stared at this robot for so many years, I was extremely familiar with the proportions and functionality of WALL·E. Great input from LEGO Product Designer Steen Sig Andersen and the team at The LEGO Group, and from Andrew Stanton (the director of WALL·E), helped push the LEGO WALL·E to its final design.
It took a lot of iterations over almost a decade, but I’m really happy with how the final LEGO WALL·E turned out.”
LEGO Wall-E Creator
Angus MacLane was the Directing Animator for the film WALL·E at Pixar Animation Studios. He was closely involved with the team that designed and built the title robot.
也许瓦力这个电影并不是迪士尼最卖座的动画片，但是这个角色可以说是迪士尼最值得我们纪念的动画形象。而作者对于这个黄色机器人更是倾注了很多心血来设计，在作者不下10个模型的设计中逐步完善，并且在最终上市的版本，可以说真的很讨喜。也许最初发售的脖子零件问题让这个玩具稍显瑕疵，但是乐高及时修正了这个错误。这也无法阻止这款的热卖，即便你从没有玩过乐高，这款玩具也许也会让你去拥有。而8个多月的绝版周期也让这款作品在绝版后的价格上涨非常厉害，而近期的有些回落的价格可能是你目前选择的好时间！

THE LEGO® MAZE
“Growing up I was always fascinated with how things worked. I have never actually owned one of those original wooden mazes, but I would always be drawn to them whenever visiting someone who had one.
After building a few small mazes it didn’t take long before I was building larger mazes to run a LEGO® soccer ball through.
I originally tried to recreate the wooden version of the labyrinth maze as faithfully as possible, but it quickly became apparent that this wasn’t practical.
I decided to decrease the size of the maze and eliminate the holes. By having the ball fall into depressions, the maze could be built using fewer larger plates.
One of the limitations of the original wooden toy is that it is always the same.
There is no way to make it more or less difficult, or modify the maze to have a different play experience.
As I was designing this model I really wanted to embrace the customization that having it built out of LEGO pieces would allow. Not only can people modify the difficulty of the mazes to gradually increase their skill, but they can create mazes that follow specific patterns, themed mazes, mazes with multiple pathways to the finish. The possibilities seem almost limitless.”

Designing the Yellow Submarine allowed Kevin Szeto to indulge two of his passions: The Beatles and designing with LEGO® bricks.
“As an amateur musician and songwriter, I have always been drawn to the music of the Beatles. The Yellow Submarine is bright, fun, and colorful, which also makes it a good subject to translate into LEGO form.”
“I completed the main structure of the Yellow Submarine over one weekend, but I probably spent another half dozen weeknights tweaking details here and there. I would estimate I spent about 25 - 30 hours designing and building the initial model.”

As a fan of both Adventure Time™ and LEGO® building, recreating the characters from the iconic cartoon series was a tough, but very satisfying task for Ludovic Piraud. “I discovered Adventure Time after I’d read an article about a wacky cartoon series and decided to give the show a try. At first I was puzzled by it, then intrigued and finally completely hooked by its colorful universe and story.” "The design of the characters in Adventure Time uses very round shapes, therefore LEGO bricks don’t instantly feel like a good fit to reproduce these rounded shapes. However, other elements like colors and proportions between shapes are often enough to make a character recognizable, so I thought I’d try to make block-like characters.” “I’m just an occasional LEGO builder, so I asked for input from other LEGO Ideas users. The feedback I received was very constructive. The last project update is the most accomplished and that’s all thanks to the support from the community.”

With a shared passion for both space exploration and LEGO building, Valerie Roche (aka Whatsuptoday) and Felix Stiessen (aka Saabfan) worked closely together to create their impressive Apollo 11 Mission model for LEGO Ideas.
“The most challenging part was the Lunar Landing module. I (Felix) tried building it as small as possible (I wanted it to fit in the half-cone parts as seen in the model) while still looking good and accurate. After that, we began building the rocket around it. We also tried to make the rocket as sound as possible so Valérie included pillars and beams inside for structural integrity.”
“It actually took quite a long time to finish the whole model. There were often times when one of us just abandoned the project for a few weeks and came back to it later, however, thanks to the fact that it is a collaborative project it was always
the case that one of us continued making progress on the project and re-motivated the other. All in all we would say it took us about a year to complete.” “We were surprised (and happy of course) when we learned our model would be the latest one in the LEGO Ideas series. What we like about the Lego Ideas platform is the feedback and support you get from the community. It’s great to reply to comments, read suggestions and improve your model in the updates. Of course the chance of designing your own Lego set is also really cool!”
