紫袍玉以稳沉的紫色为主体，绿条相间，同时伴有桔红、乳白、黄、褐等色，多层紫色和多条玉带构成层次分明的奇特色彩，质地致密细腻，温润如玉，手感细腻柔润，色泽自然和谐，密度高，耐酸碱，硬度适中（硬度3～3.5度），形态多样，色彩鲜艳，雕刻性能好，具有极高的观赏价值。
