1、circumstance：条件，环境。-客观/; circumstance指某种事件或动作发生时的情况,一般都用复数形式

2、situation：情况，状况。---岗位/指危急或重大的事态,侧重“事态”,也指“职位,职业”

3、state：状态。------心理精神/state是普通用语,指“情况,状态”,其存在形式并不是具体事物

这四个词都有“情况,状态,条件,状况”的意思。

Condition常用的两个意思：条件、状况。

当条件讲的时候只能用condition，不能用situation, occasion或者circumstance，比如说天气条件不好，就可以是bad weather conditions，工作条件不好，bad work conditions。有时候，“条件”这个意思可以翻译为“环境”，比如工作环境、生活环境，但不管怎么翻译，它们表达的都是一个意思：基于怎样的条件，某事才能发生或者某人在进行活动。

当状况讲的时候，一般都只用在人身上，比如健康状况，health conditions，皮肤状况，skin conditions。当然也可以用在事物上，比如房间状况良好，the room is in good conditions。无论是用在人还是事物上，condition表达状况都是客观的具体的物理状态。比如你要说战争状况很焦灼，就不能用condition而要用situation，因为战争是一个比较抽象事物。///////////

condition : 一般强调产生影响的原因或环境，复数形式指笼统的情况。

situation：situation的基本意思是“形势，情况”，多指国家的政治局势，经济状态等。是可数名词。situation作“职业，职位，工作”解时是比较旧式的用法。

Situation：特定时间特定地点正在发生的情况、形势

Situation是使用最多的一个词，它只表示情况、形势，不像condition那样有多个意思。而且，situation表示的情况比较具体，要么有特定的时间，要么有特定的地点，要么涉及特定的人，要么符合特定的场合，而且，情况一般是抽象的、正在发生的、对一些人产生影响的。比如this situation can’t go on, we need to talk，这种情况不能再继续下去了，我们要谈谈。在这里，the situation是说话者双方都知道的情况，会二人都产生影响。再比如上面我们举的例子战争局势很紧张，the war is in a tense situation，就是说战争现在正在进行。一般来说，就可以把situation翻译成“形势”“局面”等。

situation : 指明确具体的环境情况或处境。

Circumstance：广义的环境、情况，境况//1、circumstance：circumstance指某种事件或动作发生时的情况,一般都用复数形式。

Circumstance和situation非常接近，只不过circumstance强调的是一般的环境、情况、条件等，而且它一般和介词in/under搭配起来使用，比如in/under certain circumstances，在特定情况下，in/under any circumstances，在任何情况下，这时候就可以用case去替换它，比如in any case, in this case等等。we can’t trust her under any circumstances，在任何情况下我们都不能相信她。相比之下，situation的使用就自由得多。Circumstance的情况、环境并不需要特定的时间地点人物，也不需要对某人产生影响或正在发生，它只是单纯表示环境、情形而已。所以，句子The strategy was too dangerous in the explosive circumstances of the times中的circumstances也可以换成situation。

circumstance : 多指周围的情况或某事发生时的情况。

I think she coped very well under the circumstances.
我觉得在那种情况下她处理得很不错。
Obviously we can't deal with the problem until we know all the circumstances.

Occasion：时刻、场合，机会

和上面三个词相比，occasion的意思就有比较明显的差距了，它一般有两个意思，一是时刻、场合，即an occasion is a time when something happens, or a case of it happening。另一个意思是机会，即an opportunity for doing something。

第二个很好区别，因为其他三个词都没有这个意思，比如：It is an occasion for all the family to celebrate，这个是全家庆祝的机会；I'll speak to him about it if the occasion arises，有机会的话我想和他谈谈。

第一个意思可能会和上面上个词相混淆，但是也比较好区分，因为一般occasion和on搭配使用，on this/that occasion，这次/那次，I’ve met him on several occasions，我见过他几次。I can remember very few occasions when he had to cancel because of ill health，我记得他因为健康不佳而被迫取消的情况很少。这里的occasion就是某事发生的时刻，在这里就是指他因为身体不好被取消的这件特定的事。不能替换为condition，因为不是指条件、某事的状况，不能替换为situation，因为不是指形势、局势，也不能替换为circumstances，不是指环境、情况。

当然，对上面这个而言，替换为situation或circumstance也可以，就会变成I can remember very few situations/circumstances when he had to cancel because of ill health，这时候，situations/circumstances指的就是周围有不同的环境、客观的情况，就不是when he had to cancel because of ill health这件事了。意思发生了变化。

2.当然你也可以说under different circumstances，under changed circumstances，但说话者意图的环境仍是指那个客观环境，某事得以存在的已经发生的不可改变的event和facts这种环境。
