The dog ate the cat. (现代英语)
在古英语中有四种写法,主要是顺序变化:
1. Dog+(主语词尾)ate cat+(宾语词尾).
2. Cat+(宾语词尾)ate dog+(主语词尾).
3. Ate dog+(主语词尾)cat+(宾语词尾).
4. Cat+(宾语词尾)dog+(主语词尾) ate.
所以,下面这句话在现代英语中是错误的,但在古英语中完全正确:
1. dog cat towards ran quickly brownblack.(The brown dog ran quickly towards the black cat.那只棕色的狗飞快地向黑猫跑去。)
