PIE词根*ak-
锋利的、尖端、刺破(be sharp, rise to a point, pierce)
acid | edge(n.) |
acrid | egg(v.) |
acrobat | hammer |
acronym | oxide |
acute | oxy- |
eager | oxygen |
ear(n.2)穗 | vinegar |
acrobat n.
1. Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional 奥多比Acrobat
oxygen n.
1. The human brain needs to bewithout oxygen for only four minutes before permanent damage occurs.
oxide n.
1. In the atmosphere, carbon dioxideacts rather like a one-way mirror -- the glass in the roof of a greenhouse which allows the sun’srays to enter but prevents the heat from escaping.<1992>在大气中,二氧化碳的作用就像单向镜子一样-温室屋顶中的玻璃可以使阳光进入,但可以防止热量散逸。
2. The carbon dioxide (CO2) from the airmay enter the leaf as a gas but is dissolved in water in the leaf before it iscombined with a part of the water to form simple sugars -- the base materialfrom which the plant body is mainly built.<1991> 空气中的二氧化碳(CO2)可能以气体的形式进入叶子,但在与一部分水结合形成单糖之前,会溶解在叶子中的水中,单糖是构成植物体的主要基础材料。
3. The processes of photosynthesis, bywhich carbon dioxide and water are combined -- in the presence of chlorophyll (叶绿素) and with energy derived from light -- to form sugars, require thatcarbon dioxide from the air enter the plant.<1991> 在叶绿素的存在下,二氧化碳和水结合的光合作用过程(叶绿素)和来自光的能量来形成糖,需要空气中的二氧化碳进入植物。
4. Since carbon dioxide is present in theair only in trace quantities (3 to 4 parts in 10,000 parts of air) and watervapor is near saturation in the air spaces within the leaf (at 80℉, saturatedair would contain about 186 parts of water vapor in 10,000 parts of air), thetotal amount of water vapor lost is many times the carbon dioxideintake.<1991> 由于二氧化碳仅以微量存在(在10,000份空气中为3到4份),并且水蒸气在叶片内的空气空间中接近饱和(在80℉时,饱和空气将包含约186份水 蒸汽在10,000份空气中蒸发),则损失的水蒸气总量是二氧化碳吸收量的许多倍。
5. Actually, because of wind and otherfactors, the loss of water in proportion to carbon dioxide intake may be evengreater than the relative concentrations of the two gases.<1991> 实际上,由于风和其他因素,与二氧化碳摄入量成比例的水损失甚至可能大于两种气体的相对浓度。
6. High overhead in the carbon dioxide(CO2) that passes for air is a layer of clouds, perhaps 10 to 20 miles thick,whose little drops consist mostly of sulfuric acid (H2SO4).<1990> 在高空,被当作空气的二氧化碳(CO2)是一层云,大约有10到20英里厚,其中的小水滴主要由硫酸(H2SO4)构成。
