(初级)原版英语怎么读2：Schizophrenic：He Hears Voices

大量英语阅读(包含阅读原版原著英语)能提高英语水平(含口语)吗？

不一定的。因为读“什么”(What to read)不是决定性因素，“怎么”读，“用什么方式”读(How to read)才是。

有人以为只有把英语通篇“翻译”成中文才叫“阅读”，你是否也是这样“认为”的？

1) 读(What)：

下面的英语“似乎”很简单(用词简单，语法结构简单)，似乎不用“翻译”就能懂。不过，“翻译”不是指“翻译”成中文，“翻译”是指“翻译”成英文。这样的“翻译”就不一定还“简单”了。

下文阅读时，不是用来给你“翻译”成中文的，是用来给你“翻译”成英文的，尤其是schizophrenic/schizophrenia这个“生词”，不是非得要“懂得”它的中文意思才叫“理解”。试试：

Pete is schizophrenic. About one percent of people are schizophrenic. Schizophrenia is a mental condition. Its cause is unknown. There is no cure. Drugs can help a person live with the condition. But these drugs have side effects. Schizophrenia usually occurs in a person's teens. The person starts hearing voices in his head. The voices talk constantly. Pete goes to a coffee shop every day. He drinks coffee and smokes cigarettes. He sits at a table by himself. The voices talk to Pete. They talk about this. They talk about that. They talk about the man sitting at the next table. "That man doesn't like you. He wants to fight you," a voice tells Pete. Pete thinks about walking over to the man. He thinks about telling the man to stand up and fight. But Pete knows the voice might be lying to him. He leaves the coffee shop.

2) 怎么读(How)？

把英语schizophrenia/schizophrenic“翻译”成英语来“理解”(把你学过的英语“用”起来吧)：

   你真的不需要“懂得”中文，才能知道schizophrenic什么意思，也不需要记住中文，才能记住schizophrenic

4. 读：Its cause is unknown. There is no cure.

   说：Okay.No one knows why people suffer from schizophrenia,or get schizophrenic.

5. Cure又是什么意思呢？

读英语：to cure is to restore to health,to get rid of an illness completely,to recover from an illness completely

说英语：Okay.When we say：There is no cure,we mean we can not restore a patient to health.We can not get rid of an illness completely.No medical treatment can recover you completely from schizophrenia.

这篇短文“阅读”不是让你把它通篇一字不漏的“翻译”成中文才表示你“理解”和“读懂”了。你能这么“读的是英语，脑子里出现的还是英语”，并把阅读变成口语，你的“英语阅读”目的就算达到了。
