People applying for a license will soon be asked whether they want to donate their organs if they are killed in an accident, Chonqing Evening News reports. Drivers can also specify which organs they would like to donate.
《重庆晚报》报道，卫生部副部长黄洁夫近日接受记者采访时表示，我国有望年内实现申领驾照时进行器官捐献意愿登记。届时，居民在申领驾照时将对万一遇到车祸等意外情况死亡后，是否愿意捐献自己的器官以及捐献何种器官作出选择。

China is facing a large shortage of organs. Of the 300,000 people waiting for a liver transplant, only 2,000 will receive one each year.

北大体测1/4男生不及格
Over 25% of boys taking Peking University's annual student health and physical strength assessment failed to pass acceptable fitness standards, YNET reports. Roughly 83% of students passed the exam, falling short of 2007 physical fitness target – 85%, with 25.76% of boys failing to meet standards. Conversely, only 6.45% of girls failed to meet standards. In an evaluation of body shape, only 40% of boys were reported to have a 'normal weight,' with 9.37% registering as 'overweight' and 25.56% reported as 'obese.' In stark contrast, only 4.01% of girls were reported 'obese' and 40% registered as 'underweight.'

>UN calls for Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has called on Cambodia and Thailand to declare a ceasefire, as border clashes continue for a third day, the BBC reports. The fighting took place west of the disputed Preah Vihear Temple, where deadly clashes erupted in February. Ten soldiers have so far been killed in the clashes, which began on Friday. The two sides exchanged heavy fire on Sunday. Thousands of villagers evacuated from their homes were sheltering in camps on either side of the porous border. Parts of the Thai-Cambodian border have never been formally demarcated, causing continuous tensions between the two countries. An international court awarded the Preah Vihear Temple to Cambodia in 1962, but both sides claim ownership of the surrounding area.

>Lasers could replace spark plugs in car engines

A team at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics has designed lasers to replace spark plugs to ignite the fuel/air mixture in combustion engines, the BBC reports. A team from Romania and Japan has now demonstrated a system that can focus two or three laser beams into an engine's cylinders at variable depths. The system increases the completeness of combustion and neatly avoids the issue of degradation over time. The approach would increase efficiency of engines, and reduce pollution by igniting more of the fuel mixture.

Most research on bullying has focused on its effect on children, for the good reason that children bear the brunt of the suffering. But parent reports suggest that when a kid is bullied, many parents say they feel angry, frustrated and helpless. Their relationships with other adults in the community may crack as parents choose sides. In some cases, bullying strains the whole family, making it harder for parents to help end their child's torment. Psychologist suggest parents teach their kids early how to express their emotions and assert themselves in social situations. Making sure the child has a wide range of play dates with different peer groups can also prevent bullying.

Researchers found that while 80 kinds of bacteria lurk on each square inch of the toilet, around 700 harmful bugs inhabit the car's interior. The study also revealed that 42% of motorists regularly dine while driving.

At least 17 people were killed and 24 others injured in a building fire in a southern Beijing suburb this morning, Xinhua reports. Firefighters have put out the blaze. The fire erupted at around 1 am from a four-story building in Daxing District, police said. An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.

Thousands of people are flocking to the northern Swiss city of Basel to see a giant, stinking flower bloom for the first time, BBC reports. The amorphophallus titanum, known as the corpse flower because it exudes the smell of rotting flesh upon opening, is the first to blossom in Switzerland in 75 years. Originally native to the tropical rainforests on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, the plant requires a humid climate to grow and rarely blossoms, even in the wild. The flower's smell, said to be a cross between burnt sugar and rotting flesh, is designed to attract insects for pollination.
