In the international arena, it has become a global economic, financial, trade, shipping and sci-tech innovation center, while domestically, it serves as the central city of the world-class city cluster in the YRD region, and the heart of the G60 S&T Innovation Valley and the Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Bay Area. Well known for its open economy and innovation-nurturing, inclusive urban environment, the city is committed to developing itself as a gateway connecting China with the rest of the world and a pivot in the global economic landscape. As China is set to reach its second centenary goal, Shanghai will further pioneer China’s all-round efforts to open up. Sci-Tech Innovations to Generate Higher Growth Shanghai will remain focused on promoting sci-tech innovation, as it empowers the city’s “Four-Function” and “Five-Center” initiatives, helps strengthen its “Five Types of Economy”, and accelerates the increase of the city’s overall capacity. In the first half of this year, strategic emerging industries in Shanghai recorded rapid growth, and the added value of industrial enterprises above the designated size increased by 20% from the previous year. Looking ahead, Shanghai will implement a new round of action plans to further build its “Four Brands”, aiming to build a top-notch intelligent manufacturing stronghold comprised of three pioneering core industries and six key industries. These leading industries will generate exceptional growth, new key technologies and integrated solutions in the high-end manufacturing sector which will benefit the YRD region, the rest of China, and ultimately the rest of the world. In addition, Shanghai will fully leverage digital technologies to further increase efficiency and growth capacity, unleashing the city’s new development momentum.
