Reading:

Things have changed for Mr Li. Now he’s got a “secretary”. He is no longer alone. When the optician came to examine his eyes and prescribe glasses for Li yesterday, the optician suggested that Li not write the novel any more because of his weak eyesight. So his daughter no longer lets him write anything. Li decides that he will no longer write it himself, but still he can think and ask somebody else to help write it!

1．Any more 和 any longer用在否定句中表示过去的情景现在已经结束，它们常位于句末。Any more比any longer更常见。

The optician suggested that Bill not write the novel any more.(或 any longer)

2．动词的肯定式+ no longer 可以代替 否定动词+ any more/any longer. No longer不如any more/any longer常用，而且no longer更正式。

His daughter no longer lets him write anything.(=His daughter doesn’t let him write anythingany more.)

He will no longer write it himself.(= He will not write it himself any more.)

3．no longer 位于动词be之后，主动词之前，助动词和主动词之间。
