翻译练习：GEB 的中文翻译是非常称赞的，自己翻译练习一下，然后比较学习。
长知识：神书太厚难，所以先只选择目录翻译，从整体上先了解个大概，多少也可以说看过点了。。。

Chapter IV: Consistency, Completeness, and Geometry.
The preceding Dialogue is explicated to the extent it is possible at this stage. This leads back to the question of how and when symbols in a formal system acquire meaning. The history of Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry is given, as an illustration of the elusive notion of "undefined terms". This leads to ideas about the consistency of different and possibly "rival" geometries. Through this discussion the notion of undefined terms is clarified, and the relation of undefined terms to perception and thought processes is considered.
Little Harmonic Labyrinth.
This is based on the Bach organ piece by the same name. It is a playful introduction to the notion of recursive-i.e., nested structures. It contains stories within stories. The frame story, instead of finishing as expected, is left open, so the reader is left dangling without resolution. One nested story concerns modulation in music-particularly an organ piece which ends in the wrong key, leaving the listener dangling without resolution.

The preceding Dialogue is explicated to the extent it is possible at this stage.

explicate = to explain an idea in detail详细解释。找一个简单的例句，结合听说读写+场景的方法记住它。

at this stage GEB 中文直译为“在这一阶段”，我个人以为不是很妥，这一阶段其实就是本章。

这一句我的译文和 GEB 译文有个语序上的差别。as 从句该放在前面还是后面？

我以为，判断的一个标准是，找出这句话的重点，是想突出表达主句还是从句。上面这句话中哪个是重点？说实话我觉得分不清楚。那就是不分轻重了，从句翻译放前面或后面都可以。

the relation of undefined terms to perception and thought processes is considered.

这里主要是对 the relation of X to (Y and Z ) 的理解， X 是 undefined terms， Y 是 perception process, Z 是 thought process。容易搞错的可能是没把 Y 和 Z 放一起。

我这里对 consider 直译了，GEB 中文用的是”考察“。说不上好，也说不上不好，总感觉”考察“这个词有点官方味。

playful = very active, happy, and wanting to have fun: 有趣的，比如一个简单的场景：你的朋友来家里玩，你的小猫蹭蹭蹭的串上他腿爬到头，扯他头发。就可以说这小家伙真是 a playful little cat。

我直译成”有趣的“了，GEB 中文译成”游戏式的“，我觉得好棒。

frame 是框架的意思，引申可以译成”主干“。

keep/leave/someone dangling = to not tell someone what is going to happen or when it will happenYou can’t just leave him dangling while you decide.

想象一下未完待续的场景。

GEB 中文直译是”使听者处在悬而不决的状态里“，我译成了”听众有点摸不着头脑了“，可能不是很准确。
