It can be a daunting experience to go it alone after the weekly contact of a two year Diploma course.
This group aims to offer you exra support, resources and encouragement as you make the transition and as you build your practice or get to grips with your new counselling post.
We would work in a person centred way, with the group negotiating the agenda to meet its needs. My experience is that this usually includes elements of practice supervision, exploration of theory and of new ways of working, personal development, identifying ongoing training needs, the BACP accreditation process, ethical dilemmas - the list is endless.
As the group is facilitated, the time spent in the group counts towards your supervision hours the stated requirement for BACP accreditation.
This would be a closed group of 6 to 8 participants in the first 2 years of becoming newly fledged as a counsellor. We contract for an initial 10 sessions of 3 hours at roughly 3 weekly intervals, making adjustments for holidays, etc. This can be reviewed to extend for a further 5 sessions if this is appropriate and helpful to all participants.
Participants will contract for the full 10 sessions to make this a viable group.
