The Law of Keeping One': If you keep one, you keep the root of life《Sharing Chapter 39 of Tao Te Ching and Connecting Month》Serial 22

The content of Chapter 39 of the Tao Te Ching are all aphorisms and secrets of success given by Laozi - these are the laws of the universe, the real material reality, which can be found everywhere in the history of nature and human evolution, and are not some vain concepts. It's just that the Tao is not easy to describe in words, and we can only understand it by heart. But if anyone can constantly upgrade to this realm, with the highest goal of enlightenment, practice and harmony, then his life will definitely be different.

In chapter 39Laozi focuses on three laws of the universe: keeping one, lowliness and no-honor.

First, the law of keeping one.

To 'keep one' is to transcend duality and approach the state of Tao. When the heart keeps one, you keep the Tao, which is eternal and unique; while virtue is ever-changing, and virtue is the most stable state among all things. What would happen if all things lost their virtue? It means that they have deviated from the stable normal state, and the next step must be to lose balance, change their nature, or even go to extinction. Because the loss of virtue means it is far from the Tao and far from the One; and what is not the Tao, not the One, must accept the result of 'loss', which is the essential reason for the demise of things.

In this chapter, Laozi repeatedly cites examples to tell us the importance of keeping the Tao, in order to remind the people that:

If the mind keeps one, then everything in the world will be right, and what you need will surely come. Because, if the heart keeps the one, it will keep the quietness, and only with the quietness will there be true wisdom, and then it will not stay on the good and the bad, the noble and the cheap, the beautiful and the ugly, the right and the wrong, the good and the evil, and so on, which originate from the dichotomy; all the judgments and arguments will come to an abrupt end, and your life will return to the original trajectory of good fortune, and everything will work automatically, and this is the benefit of keeping the one. On the contrary, if the human heart loses the wholeness of 'one', it will no longer be just and quiet; and the more inner agitation there is, the farther life will go away. Only when a person has the most basic virtue of being pure and quiet can he maintain a long life.

This is the 'law of keeping one'. If you keep one, you keep the root of life.
