Zhoukou’s Grain Output Enough to Feed the Whole Country for More than Half a Month
新中国成立70年来，周口市生产总值从1952年的不到3亿元增加到2018年的2687亿元，人均生产总值从66元增加到30817元，财政收入从400万元增加到129亿元，实现了从温饱不足到即将全面小康的历史性转变。
Over the past 70 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Zhoukou’s GDP has increased from less than 300 million yuan in 1952 to 268.7 billion yuan in 2018, per capita GDP soared from 66 yuan to 30,817 yuan, and fiscal revenue jumped from 4 million yuan to 12.9 billion yuan, realizing a historic transformation from insufficient food and clothing to an upcoming all-round well-off society.
周口作为农业大市，素有“豫东粮仓”之美誉。周口市常年粮食播种面积稳定在1800万亩左右，总产量稳定在160亿斤以上，每年为国家提供商品粮100多亿斤，是全国粮食生产先进市、全国小麦生产第一大市、河南省第一产粮大市。
As a big agricultural city, Zhoukou enjoys a reputation of “Granary of Eastern Henan Province”. It has a stable grain-sown area of about 18 million mu (a unit of area, 1 mu is about 666 square meters) and a total output of over 16 billion jin (a unit of weight, 1 jin is 0.5 kilogram), producing over 100 billion jin of commodity grains every year, as a national advanced grain production city, national largest wheat production city, and Henan’s largest grain production city.
2018年，周口市粮食总产量达到180.4亿斤，创历史新高，稳居全省第一，比宁夏(78.6亿斤)、青海(20.6亿斤)、西藏(20.8亿斤)、海南(29.4亿斤)四省区产量总和还多，按每人每天0.74斤全年270斤口粮计算，能够保证全国13亿人半个多月的口粮。
In 2018, Zhoukou’s total grain output reached 18.04 billion jin, a record high, ranking the first in Henan, which is more than the combined output of Ningxia (7.86 billion jin), Qinghai (2.06 billion jin), Xizang (2.08 billion jin) and Hainan (2.94 billion jin). If a person needs 0.74 jin of rations every day, Zhoukou’s total grain output is enough to feed 1.3 billion people in China for more than half a month.

Relying on the long shipping history, Zhoukou has made great efforts to develop the port-neighboring economy with its waterway, location and hinterland advantages. To develop port-neighboring economy, Zhoukou has accelerated the construction of “Five Port-neighboring Industrial Parks.” More than 10 projects have been settled.
同时，周口积极创建国家级多式联运枢纽试点城市，周南高速年内竣工、郑合高铁即将通车、民用机场建设加快推进、沙颍河航运通江达海，周口将成为拥有公铁水空“四位一体”交通网络的省辖市，周口中心港已经成为名副其实的豫货出海口。（记者申华 编译赵汉青）
